Joe is right on!
I highly DOUBT if your mother board is bad! Your VAIO was working ~ the software got deleted and now it's not working...
I suspect your Windows XP and DRIVERS need to be reinstalled. I also suspect you will have no other 'hardware' problems because it seems highly unlikely both would get trashed at the same time...
ALSO... XP came in 32 Bit and 64 Bit versions... be SURE you have the correct version for your System!
I provided a link for your VAIO drivers below.

SOURCE: accidently deleted TCPIP folder system32
Hi, In Windows XP SP2 ,assuming that all the viruses have been removed and there are no other issues, go to Control Panel, Network Connections, right click on Properties of your Networking Card or Wifi, in the General tab click on Install, highlight Protocol, click on Microsoft, select TCP/IP, OK. Btw, I don't recall Windows having any folder TCPIP. In any case, hope this be of some help/idea. Post back should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

Try to update the BIOS, and also see if the CPU is overheating... Dust in the Fan, Bad Fan or Fan not seated correctly. The BIOS my be triggering a safty feature, make sure all fans are working at full speed. If that doesnt work... maybe a short in the MB.

Why don't you try to get your main drive running before getting into Raid Configurations. Set your single drive to Master and run setup telling it you have one drive. Once you are satisfied that it is not some other fluky error, put in the other drive and I believe if SATA you don't even have to worry about Master Slave. Go about your boot and go into setup again. Hopefully all is good with the world and all that has to be done is fix up BIOS. No matter what, there is never an " out of the box " clean system. Make sure you plug your cables in correctly. I assume you're running EIDE. You'll get it.

You can use your cd drive for installation.

FreeUndelete restores deleted files, including those removed from Windows Recycle Bin. In case of accidental removal of files on a NTFS (1.0 and 2.0) (default for Windows Vista , XP, 2000 and NT), FAT32, FAT16 or FAT12 file systems this is the utility to help.
Supported file systems:
NTFS 1.0, NTFS 2.0, FAT12, FAT16 and FAT32
The recovered files are saved into a new user-selected location to prevent overwriting the deleted files on the original media. hope this helps

So do you have 2 hard drives in it now or just 1?
If you have 2 you need to make sure the one you want to boot from is set to MASTER and the other is set to SLAVE. There is a set of pins on the back of the hard drives with one little plastic JUMPER that connects two of the pins. The layout of the pins should be labelled on the hard drive somewhere with markings like MA / SL / CS / where MA = master and SL = slave.
