There is a switch under the rim which the lid actuates -- when the lid is up the switch is opened to prevent the machine from spinning -- there is a "post" on the lid which pushes this switch when the lid closes -- sounds like this lid switch is malfunctioning -- perhaps loose, or broken, or maybe burned contacts -- more info, let me know.

Kenmore 70 series Washing Machine will not spin sometimes. Fills, agitates, drains all correctly but only sometimes starts spinning.

Could be article of clothing stuck between plastic tub and metal basket. If not that, then most likely clutch or basket drive is bad.

Good afternoon my wash machine Samsung WA17x7r does not spin anymore. Everything else work perfectly, except it doesn't spin nor for washing, rinsing or drying.

First thing to check would be your safety lock switch, see if it's engaged, can you open lid while still set on cycle? It shouldn't open. Sometimes they bend a little, no latching, won't spin, or a loose screw needs tightened.Sometimes the timer switch can be a little off. Pull off your knob that sets the cycles and see if it is in true line up with function. If not, I think I remember you can adjust it from behind panel.

Hyundai washing machine spin not working

Hi.

Most spin problems are consequence of drain system faults.

The first part to check is drain system. Check the drain hose at the back and the drain filter attached to the pump. See article at the end for more detail.

Most machines' timer boards do an additional check on the lid switch before starting the spin part of the cycle. If the lid lock light is flashing and the machine does not spin the lid switch is probably defective.

The lid switch is tested jumping its contacts or reading Ohms at switch terminal. A two-terminals switch must read continuity (low impedance) when door is closed and must read open (infinity of Ohms) when door is open. If the switch is a three contacts, the third contact is called "heater". In that case there must be continuity between the three contacts with lid closed. If the model instead of a simple switch uses a wax motor, then the lock cannot be tested by jumping contacts. The lock motor must be tested reading Ohms and checking that impedance is the same as indicated in service manual.

If lid switch and drain system are OK, then the pressure switch must be tested. The pressure switch detects the water level and among other things determines when to advance the cycle to spin.

If all the above is OK, then the motor and motor control unit (if present) must be tested.

Wonders how much it costs to repair an old washing machine spin cycle gave out

The lid switch is bad. The machine thinks the lid is open so it won't spin. The part will be cheap ... probably $10. You can remove the 2 wires going to it and cut the connectors/strip back the insulation and twist the two wires together and electrical tape them up. Then you won't have to spend a penny!! Just don't stick your hand in while it's spinning!!!! It won't stop spinning anymore when you lift the lid. Good luck. barneyluc

Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washer will not spin...

I would say you have a burnt out clutch. did you over load it with a quilt or comforter?

Time to consider a new washing machine, unless its under warranty I would recommend replacing the washer vs. fixing it.

Whirlpool doesnt build them like they use to!
