Sears model 970-c87192-10 electric dryer. No heat. changed the thermodisc and thermostat safety, still no heat. Element is sparking when you turn on the dryer.

Timer

The timer is normally not at fault if the dryer doesn't heat. In many situations where timers are replaced they end up being returned. Check all of the more common components in this troubleshooting guide before replacing the timer.

The thermal cut-off at the top of the heater duct/housing blows when the high-limit thermostat below it fails to cycle the heating element on and off properly to regulate the heater temperature. This thermal cut-off along with high-limit thermostat including the cycling thermostat on the blower housing are wired in series with the heating element and power to it is cut when the thermal cut-off blows as a safety feature to prevent fire. The heat cycle must be working for the timer to advance in the Auto Dry setting.
Your heating element and or high limit thermostat is bad.
We need a complete model number to be more specific.

It is possible you need to replace your heater element or your thermostats .. depending on your model which you did not list. Your element and thermostats will cause it not to heat ... when you get your model go to www.sears.com/parts and you can possibly view your schematic if sears had ever sold it... get an ohm meter there cheap Lowe's home depot sears test for power on each of the three. clean the venting also..

check your air flow coming out of dryer if it is good and stong then you should change the high limit safety thermostat and the cycling thermostat.

Good be your heating element had a weak coil when it heat up it lose it volt recheck your element

Check the resistance of the heating element (8 to 14 ohms). If ok, then check continuity of the overload devices attached to the heat element duct. If either one or both are open then replace ($14 for both). Dryer should heat.

If heat element is faulty, the part can be purchased at Sears/Kenmore Parts Center and swapped out ($45.00).

Wedge, one red wire to the right terminal of the heating element. The safety thermostat should of had a piggy back that fits over the left side terminal of the element and connected to one side of the safety thermostat. Other red to other side of safety thermostat, Orange from the timer (smaller connector) to the respective connection on jumper. Catriver.
