Click Start

Type CMD
Press Enter
Type CHKDSK q: /F <--- where 'q' is the drive-letter assigned by Windows to your Kingston.
After "check-disk" has repaired all the errors, your device can be formatted.

That device uses the standard USB storage driver in Windows. Try the device in a working Windows 7 machine. It will mount or you will see a message about formatting the drive. If it mounts your Vista is corrupted and needs fixing/reloading. If windows 7 wants to reformat the USB device, the USB device is likely corrupted and the data is lost. Or is could have been formatted for a Mac and cannot be read directly on Windows.

PS - $80 for a 4 gb USB drive is too much in the current market. You should be able to replace it for $10 or less.

This is Azeem Inam. your data traveller does not accept data over 101MBs. There can be two reasons for this problem. 1. there may be a virus that has provided a limitation on the copying facility. 2. This can be a partition problem. All you need to do is to use the software called DM (Disk manager). This is a DOS versioned software. Go into its advance installation option and then accept the hard disk kingston data traveller. It will take you to another menu showing the partition styles you may choose. you'll have to choose FAT32 type. then in the next menu you'll have to choose partition size by pressing enter button. and then accepting format you are done. it will start working as new again. If this doesn'thave any movable switch. Actually very small switch on part of it. You got virus in it. Usually it is hidden, and usually name AUTORUN.INF. run scan to your usb drive.

the drive isnt write protected the usbport or the connection is loose so that the computer is showing the drive as read only drive also you can format it using command and also setting off the read only attribute that may have been put by a virus also softwares like usbcillin makes pen drive writeprotected take care
