I,

It depends how you reinstalled the OS in the computer, was it using the recovery discs or retail XP disc. Using recovery discs if you are installing, everything should work fine. This scenario may occur if you have used a retail OS disc to reinstall the OS.

Anyways try the below mentioned troubleshooting steps:

Install the Original Video Driver from the below link:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNTX650PB&upd_id=2149&os_id=7

After this install Origial VAIO Event Sevices:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNTX690P&upd_id=1975&os_id=7

Then, install VAIO Event Service Update.

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNTX650PB&upd_id=2287&os_id=7

At last, install the AV Mode Utility app:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNTX650PB&upd_id=2040&os_id=7

Install the drivers in the same order, this should work. VAIO Event Services take cares about the FN keys, after installing all these drivers, restart the computer and check if the VAIO Event Service is running at the startup.

Thanks!!!!

I have a VGN-CS118E and it's media touch buttons don't work, only the AV button works

Hi,

The touch sensor buttons that control the AV Mode, volume, play, fast forward, etc. may stop working if the Synaptics Pointing Driver is uninstalled or if the file is corrupted. Follow this procedure to reinstall the Synaptics Pointing Driver.

Downloading and installing the Synaptics driver update available through the below link on this page will also resolve this issue.

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNCS118E&upd_id=3783&os_id=28

After installing, reset the BIOS to its default values.
Click the Start button, and then click on Computer .
In the Computer window, under Hard Disk Drives , double-click on (C:) .
Double-click the Windows folder.
Double-click the DRIVERS folder.
Double-click the .EXE folder.
Double-click the Pointing Driver (Synaptics) folder
Double-click on the setup or setup.exe icon.
Follow the Synaptics Pointing Driver Installation wizard instructions to install the driver.

When the installation setup is complete, a You must restart your computer to apply these changes window will appear. Choose the Restart Now button for proper installation .
