Hi All,
we have various model Polycom phones (500, 501, 601) connected to our Switchvox (Asterrisk based) server and they all stop ringing over time when receiving outside calls. The volume gets lower and lower until you can no longer hear it. Even when you turn the volume all the way up it is still silent. The only way to fix it is to reboot and then a day later or a few hours later it stops ringing again. We have tried various Polycom software levels with no luck. We have a Polycom provisioning server installed. The phones work fine when using the Switchvox provisioning tool, which uses a config that Switchvox refuses to share, but they charge you per phone to use their tool. Any suggestions?
Check this link here you can get the manual for polycom phones

Dear Sir/Madam,
1) After rebooting you can watch your ftp server and see the phone
logging in and logging out. Its doing several things (checking the size
of the bootrom.ld and sip.ld files and seeing if an update is
necessary, etc etc) that I will go over later. It will reboot a couple
of times to finish off the update.
2) After the reboots, lets be absolutely sure and lets check the bootrom and SIP versions.
If you did everything right, you should see the latest versions of the bootrom and SIP app that you had placed on your ftp site.
Now check your FTP site. You will notice that there are files being
uploaded to your directory with *.log extensions. You guess it, these
are just logs that the Phone dumps so you can trouble shoot when need
be. If everything was done right, your phone will of seen the new
bootrom.ld file and downloaded it, rebooted, and installed it. Next it
will download your new sip.ld file and use it.

Here's a link that may shed some light: http://osdir.com/ml/telephony.pbx.sipfoundry.general/2006-05/msg00063.html
It's blocked here at work but the google entry seems promising.
Here's a few more links that I can't check but seem to apply:

Have you considered one of the free Asterix distributions. Asterisk@home is the most popular. It's quite easy to setup as it offers a front-end so you don't need to mess with the configuration files. See: http://asteriskathome.sourceforge.net/ and... Oops just found out that Asterisk@home has changed names, it's not call TrixBox and can be found at http://www.trixbox.org/

You may have a problem with your RTP connection. This behavior is exhibited if your firewall doesn't allow the RTP stream from Tellme Studio to your phone. In addition, many SIP phones do not yet work correctly over VPN connections.hope u can repair ur RTP connections.also try for some support from

I received four emails stating giving solutions, but I am only able to view one of the solutions. I don't know if this is how FixYa works or if I'm experiencing technical difficulty, but the first solutions definitely did not help since Polycom provides little to no techical support for end uers.
Problem phones are not going through firewall or VPN. There is no Tell Me Studio involved. The problem is definitely in the configuration file because they work fine when we configure them with the Switchvox utility. However Switchvox refuses to share there configuration file.
I actually came across this information awhile aback and tried it, but it still doesn't help.
I also tried resetting the phones and this does not help either.
The phones are downloading the ftp files just fine and the files are being logged with no problem. There seems to be no problem with provisioning, but unfortunately over a period of time the phones that receive outside calls seem to stop ringing.
