Take a look at this post that deals with a HP nx6110 laptop with random freeze ups. If the described symptoms also happen on your laptop. If you do experience random freezeups or slow DVD you're facing the same FSB chip problem. All peripherals, USB ports included, are connected on the Front Side Bus. Poor soldering causes intermittent contact which in turn results in hanging, slow, or totally non bootable (stuck at HP logo) laptop. Hope this helps.

HP COMPAQ NX6110 LAPTOP HANGS WHEN BOOTING, BUT WHEN PRESSED AROUND THE MOUSE PAD OR HARD DISK AREA IT WORKS , BUT HANGS AGAIN LATER

It seems that the hard drive or the memory module is not seated properly and hence after pressing on the area below keyboard it gets released.
You can try following things.
Remove and reseat the Hard drive.
And remove and reseat the Memory.
Try to power on the laptop again.
If is getting hang again then you may need to do the HDD self test and memory test built into BIOS.
