I can scan just fine, but my output is not OCR and therefore not searchable. I thought this machine could do OCR? Thanks for the the help.

You can find documentation form Kyocera Printers here, though it barely mentions anything about their OCR feature:
http://usa.kyoceramita.com/americas/jsp/Kyocera/home.jsp
The OCR feature is only an image quality setting, producing a more black and white high contrast image rather than a grey scale image.
I'm using our Kyoceras to email the images to a server where "send mail" processes the image and runs OCRopus, an open source Google funded OCR project, to read information from the scan.
I'm finding there are many Virtual ReScan solutions, like Kyocera's OCR feature, VRS software produces OCR optimized images, though I haven't found an open source VRS project.
USE PAPERPORT
Why not just get a desktop application for professional OCR? That is always the best choice if you have many documents to process. There are many good applications, here is a good comparison chart: http://www.ocrworld.com/software/5-in-depth/149-top-ocr-software.html

We set the machine up to OCR, but the PDFs are not coming out searchable.
