Imation atom usb driver vista

I have an imation atom usb stick 4Gb and vista can't install the drivers for it.
After trying many times the closest I got is this error message

"Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device

Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

The system cannot find the file specified."

What can I do?

    I have tried the update on the site you mentioned

    (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940199/e...)

    but after downloding it and trying to open it a mesage

    comes up "The update does not apply to your system"



    any other ideas?

    OMG!!!!! Same here and I am soooo frustrated!!!! I have lost a whole lot of hours trying to figure this thing out! I think I hate Vista!!!

I have an imation atom usb stick 4Gb and vista can't install the drivers for it.

follow this steps
  1. You will find out that when booting your M400 from the Vista or Win 7 DVD, the setup program will not find your hard disk(s) The M400 has a SATA-RAID controller that doesn't have a "Vista Ready" driver! Use this driver
  2. Unzip the driver to a USB Memory stick and keep it ready for the disk management panel during setup
    • Use your Vista or Win7 DVD to boot
    • Stick the USB memory stick into any left hand USB port on your M400. you might have to try both ports until it is recognized by the setup
  3. Point to the memory stick when setup program ask you to load an external driver.
  4. Load the driver from USB Stick.
    • You should see the disk/partitions and should be ready to move forward in the installation process

I need driver for imation apollo external HDD, where could i find free driver for this?
External Hard Drives generally do not need drivers. If the hard drive came with 2 usbs, then plug them both in. Your drive maay require more power to work properly. Again you may need two USB port to power it as 1 single USB does not carry that much power with it.

This can happen if the proper driver for this device is not installed or that the USB stick is damaged. If proper driver is not installed go to control panel-hardware-device manager & locate the device and update/reinstall the driver. If it still does not work plug your USB stick on any other computer & if it works then format it once & try again on your laptop.

Im assuming its a new machine and when you first booted Vista failed. When you boot up, press the F10 key. This will take you to a menu to start your Acer machine from the begining. It takes a while for the first complete boot. I hope this answers your question. If not, post back and we'll diagnose your problem again. Best of luck!

You do not need any drivers in windows for these drives if you are using XP/Vista. These are generic volumes. Try deleting any mention of the driver in device manager and let windows install it automatically. This sounds a lot more that your pen drive is dead. Time for a new one. Can you borrow a friends and plug it in to test the USB port is ok?

imation super disk SD-USB-M2.Solution to run under Vista service pack 1.Works for me
boot up your puter then plug in the imation super disk into your puter's usb port then into your power sulpply socket.Then if you have a reset button on your puter Press it
the puter then shuts down and resets itself when the screen appears it asks "Start up normally" Press enter.The drive is recognised and works.Its a bit of a ball ache but works for me.Hope this helps others with the same problem
