The dryer uses a hot surface ignitor to light the gas. It's common for these to go bad, and fairly easy to replace (although it means taking the whole front off of this model, if I remember correctly). A new ignitor is around $40, available online and any well-stocked appliance parts store.

There are other possible causes for the gas not to come on, but the ignitor is most likely. It can be checked with an ohmmeter if there are no obvious breaks. This site has good pictures of how to take the machine apart if you want to try repairing this yourself. (It's the procedure for changing a belt, but the steps are the same for removing the front. Your model doesn't have a separate kick panel that comes off, I believe. If I'm wrong then the job is easier since you can reach the ignitor that way.)

Good luck with the repair, and thanks for using Fixya!

Gas dryer pilot light

Hello Lara. Your dryer does not have a pilot light. It uses a hot surface ignitor to ignite the gas. Unplug the dryer and cover it with a plastic sheet before fogging.

Is there a pilot light on amana gas dryer model LG4309W

There is no standing pilot light. The gas is ignited by a hot surface device that is electrically controlled. Trace the exhaust venting to locate the burner area.

Dryer goes on but does not heat up no flame

No flame indicates that this is a gas dryer?
If so, there has to be either a pilot light, or an ignitor. If it has a pilot light, make sure that it is lit. If it isn't, the gas will not flow. The sensing bulb above the pilot light must be hot before it will allow gas to flow.

How do I light the ignite pilot light

Most new dryers don't actually have pilot lights. They use an electric heater that turns red hot, and ignites the gas at the right time. If your trying to light the pilot light (which probably doesn't exist) because the gas isnt being ignited,,, its possible that the electric igniter needs to be replaced.

Kenmore dryer not heating

hi,
1) When this happens, something has interrupted the heat source. Run the dryer for a couple of minutes to see if it gets hot. Be sure you don't have the dial or controls on a non-heat setting, such as "Fluff" or "Wrinkle Control."

2) On an electric dryer, this may mean that the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the power has blown; reset or replace this. Be aware that a dryer may have two breakers or fuses. The motor will run when one works, but the heating element requires both.

3) On a gas dryer, recheck the control's setting to be sure it's not on a heat-free setting. Check the gas valve behind the dryer to be sure the gas supply is turned on. Also make sure the house's main gas valve is turned on.

4) Most modern dryers have electronic ignition instead of a pilot light. If yours has electronic ignition and isn't heating, call a qualified repairperson.

On an older dryer, make sure the pilot light is burning. If it isn't, relight it. You can find directions in your owner's manual, and pilot light instructions are often mounted next to the pilot light on the burner, too.

No hot air

If you have a pilot light (small flame) you can try to re-light it by turning the knob on the gas valve to the pilot position and pushing the knob down while lighting the pilot, you may have to hold the knob down for up to 30 seconds before releasing it. The pilot should stay lit and then turn the knob to the on position. If the pilot will not stay lit or the main burner will not light it could be the gas valve or the temperature sensor.
