I had a problem with my YP-K3 when i lost the installation cd as my computer no longer identified the device when i plugged it in, to solve this (on windows XP) go to 1: control panel 2:add hardware 3:connect your hardware device and click "yes i have connected the hardware" 4:scroll down and select install new hardware device 5:select install hardware that i manually select from a list 6:scroll down to windows portable devices 7:and choose MTP device this should make it so your mp3 player is now recognised by the computer hope it works
Go to the START menu. Click on RUN. type in devmgmt.msc and hit enter. Make sure you have the player plugged in and the installer CD should be on your CD drive. Now look for the category PORTABLE DEVICES or OTHER DEVICES. the YP-K3 should be listed there with a yellow question mark. Right click on it and select update driver. Follow the prompts to update. The player should be recognized after that.
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard
Media player 11 is seriously screwed up software and will cause your computer not to recognise the player . You will need to remove ALL traces of media player 11 from you computer.
I couldn't get the icon for the portable device either. I solved the problem by going to the Control Panel; used Add Hardware; and followed the prompts. I used the original Samsung K3 CD. And it worked! Good luck
