We have the LG HE frontloading washer. Is there any easy solution to the mildew smell which builds up? I understnd this is common to many front load washers?

This is a very common problem with front loading washers. Take a look at this video to fix:

There is a cleaner that needs to be run through the machine at least monthly. VERY common issue.

Front load washers are very efficient but can create odors not common in top load machines. I would suggest running a cleaner such as Affresh or Smelly washer through the machine, there are instructions on the containers but basically you run a load without clothes on the hottest settings. This will help eliminate the mildew that gets caught between the tub and basket. A treatment once a month will do wonders!

You can purchase these at Target, Lowes or grocery stores near the laundry soaps.

Leave the door open all the time and it will dry out and the mold and smell will subside.

Is the smell of mildew?

Run the washer on empty with beach and soap.

This is a common problem when the front door is left closed after use.

When the washer is not in use leave the front door cracked open. This will help in preventing mold & mildew.

Take a hand towel soaked in vinegar, then run it around the rubber seal around the front of the door, making sure you get all the way under. Then run a load of whites with javex or vinegar. Always leave the door ajar after you are done washing, or that mildew smell will re-appear.

Try running the washer with detergent and a box of baking soda--no clothes--and HOT water. Do you have very hard water in your area?

Are you useing HE detergent? If not this is your problem! The reason why you need to use HE detergent is because it is made specifically for front load washers. The regular soap is made to be deluted in 20 gallons of water your washer only fills up with about 7. so what it does is it leaves a layor of residue SINKY SINKY. Especially when you leave the door shut all the time. It's like a Bathroom if you do not ventilate it properly it will Sink eventualy. So also please leave the door cracked open.
So to getr ride of the smell Sears sells a product called Afresh or Washer Magic I prefer the Afresh you get 3 tablets and it works great atr removing odors out of your washer. Also if you are on a Well wateer it is safe to use. Or you could use good old bleach with no clothes till the smell goes away

The smell problem is actually because of the softener....its nassssty stuff it coats the interior of the washer and forms a grease like residue. I would use Washer Magic (available at all appliance parts retailers) (only half the container in front loaders) and a hot wash. Also keep spraying the boot with bleach and water soluiton every few hours it will dissappear after awhile. please rate my help
