Pages full of toner / toner streaking

Long story so bear with me. All elements are important to help rule out causes. No one can figure this out. The problem I'm having is that sometimes (mainly after I've printed a job of say 100 sheets or so) I'll get full toner color bands down the left edge of the page (holding the page in your hand). If I keep printing, the toner spreads to the whole page. Sometimes it will be magenta, sometimes, cyan, sometime black, sometimes yellow.

1st occurence - set of remanufactured toner was in printer and printer set to 'non dell toner'. Replace black with Dell brand toner. Other 3 are still non-Dell. Black starts freaking out and placing toner all over the page.

Called Dell - the sent out a new imaging drum & transfer roller.

Installed and seemed to fix problem for 1 week.

Replaced cyan non-Dell toner with Dell toner. Started spreading cyan toner.

Called Dell - they sent out a technician and a new imagind drum & transfer roller. Test print produced cyan bands down side. Technician cleaned the drum & rollers and I printed about 100 more sheets and it started spreading cyan toner again.

Called Dell - they sent out a new printer without toner or imaging drum.

Received new printer - transferred imaging drum & toner (currently all non-Dell at this point because my theory was that the non-Dell setting was causing confusion for the Dell toner).

New printer started spreading cyan again. Thought perhaps my laptop or usb cord was the problem. Hooked my computer & cord up to another Dell printer - no problems after 900 prints. Not my computer or usb cord.

New theory - it's the non-dell toner setting PERIOD. So, I transferred the non dell toner into the Dell cartridges (black & yellow only because I still have cyan and magenta Dell toner). Changed printer setting to Dell Toner. Seems to work for 300 prints. Then I start getting cyan banding again. Now, the cyan is Dell brand 'virgin' toner. 100% Dell. So now I don't think it's the non-Dell toner at all. And now, I have no theories. HELP!!!

Update - Printed a 'large' job of maybe 100 pages. Started banding with the magenta toner. So, I printed some b&w pages. Magenta banding cleared up after around 25 pages. Printed about 50 more, then the printer paused and calibrated. A long calibration. Began printing again with much more magenta toner spread over the page.

Another item of interest - turns out, the 'new' printer Dell sent me is actually refurbished and has 12,000 prints already on it. Maybe there's something around 8,000 pages that fails in the printer???

  • myassistant Apr 27, 2008

Another point - when printing strictly b&w prints, magenta smear will show up. So I don't think it has to do with the toner or the cartridge but that leads me to believe that it's something within the printer.

same issue, random banding with magenta on all printing, magenta cart running out faster than others now and using 100% dell branded toner etc

  • ilikeicq024 Jun 27, 2008

I am having the same problem. It seams to only be when the printer first wakes up from power save. I get full page smears of magenta toner all over the page. whether I am printing black and white or color it does not matter. Complexity and length of the document also don't seam to matter. I have cleaned all the toner cartridges, ran the clean developer for all four colors and ran the color auto correct wizard. I am stumped...

Similar problem: Close to the end of the warranty period printed pages would be smeared with magneta toner. Imaging drum was covered with magneta toner. At the time all cartridges were non-dell with the appropriate menu setting. Cleaned image drum with compressed air which temporarily solved problem, but it returned. Dell sent new imaging drum and transfer roller. Again temporarily solved problem. When problem returned tech support at the toner company said we should alternate between Dell and non Dell toner because the Dell developer in the developer assembly is proprietary and this could be the cause. We alternated and then eventually went to only Dell toner. Replaced imaging drum again. Printer would work for a while then the problem would return. Eventually the cyan toner decided to join the party. After many conversations with Dell they agreed to replace the magneta and cyan developer units.(we were several months out of warranty though the problem first started while under warranty). Again this temporarily solved the problem. Then the yellow(Dell) toner became the problem. Several more calls to different departments at Dell resulted in them sending the yellow and black developer units as well as a replacement high voltage power supply and machine control unit. They have not yet arrived so the jury is still out. I will post the results. I've spoken with others with the 5110 using non dell toner with no issues. This has become a real head scratcher. In any event I have been very pleased with Dells help with this issue particularly since we are so far out of warranty.

I have 5000 pages logged on the printer, and getting cyan banding on pages that are suppost to be blue. It has only ever had dell toner, and just got it's black and cyan replaced recently. The blue toner was replaced a few months back. Yellow toner is still new.

First off, this is a comment from a random person who may or may not know ALOT about these printers and toner/printer design in general. All toners are not designed to the same specification. Toner is a combination of plastic "pigment" and iron like shavings to make it magentically attracted to the electrical charges within the unit. Different toners conform to different grades and mainly size of the particles within the blend. The manufacturer doesnt only recommend that you use their toner to make them money, yes of course it makes money, but its because when the unit is designed it is designed to use a certain grade of toner, trust me if you put the non-branded toner vs the branded toner under a microscope you would see quite a difference. Often the non-branded toner is much larger in particle size (obviousely because its cheaper to make at this spec). This causes a variety of issues from excess toner not being cleaned off of developer rollers, IDT rollers, or clogging of toner dispenser tubes in the unit and the micro filters contained at the toner dispenser assy and developer assys. Also as for the issue not changing when switching to dell branded toner - the dispenser tubes within this unit contain up to 500-1000 pages worth of toner, making no change in toner you make immediately visible. Also depending on the damage caused by the previous toner, it may not be able to be fixed until all the components in between the toner and final delivery (drum cart) are replaced. In this case more than likely the toner dispenser assy, all developer assy's, and drum cartridge need to be replaced, and than be sure to stick with factory branded toner :)

BLACK TONER IS HALF FULL BUT IMAGE IS VERY POOR AND STREAKS ARE APPEARING ON PRINTED PAGES

Kyocera Mita 2050 there are streaks of toner appearing on the pages printed.

If you send a print job or print a report from the copier and there is no streaks then the problem is most likely the thin **** glass to the left of the large glass. It just needs to be claened.

If the streaks are happening when printing and copying then the problem is most likely your drum unit (MK-410) or possibly the fixing unit (FU-410), the fixing unit is the one that gets hot.

As the drum gets old it can cause print/copy issues and the cleaning blade that cleans the drum gets to the point it doesn't clean the drum properly causing streaks.

The heat roller has a teflon coating on it and as the roller gets older the teflon starts to come off and can effect prints/copies.

The drum unit should be replaced every 150,000 pages and the fixing unit every 300,000 pages on the KM-2050.

I hope this is helpful,

Speckled streaks on right margin of paper

image quality issues.
  1. Press and hold the up arrow (uparrow.gif) and down arrow (dnarrow.gif), and then turn on the printer.
  2. Release the arrows when Diagnosing... appears on the operator panel.
  3. Customer Mode should appear on the operator panel.
  4. Press the down arrow (dnarrow.gif) until the LCD displays Test Print.
  5. Press the Select (enter-key.gif) button.
  6. Press the down arrow (dnarrow.gif) until the LCD displays ContaminationChk.
  7. Press Select (enter-key.gif).
  8. The LCD displays Busy while the 3110cn prints the "ContaminationChk" pages.
  9. Examine the test pages to determine if the defect is being duplicated and also which pages are displaying the defect.
  10. If only a specific color page is reproducing the defect, then that color toner cartridge is causing the issue. You can verify this if an identical known good cartridge is available to swap for testing purposes.
  11. If the image defect appears on all color pages, then measure the distance between repetitions of the defect using the ruled edges of the color test pages.
    Good Luck

Our copies are streaky like the drum is not clean.... help! There is black streaks on the top of all of our copies on our canon imagerunner 3300.

A) Black Streaks, Shadows, And Ghosting
Adjust the printer's lightness/darkness setting to 2-3 different variables and see if problem disappears. Look at the fusing assembly - is the roller torn or does it have any black buildup? Use caution!!! It gets HOT!

Try another toner also.

Printed pages look terrible...

I'm more familiar with HP printers, but it sounds like a fuser is bad. The fuser effects print quality as well. If you've replaced the toner, as you have.

Toner streaks

You have to change a sensor. This sensor is on the left hand side of the machine. To know which sensor you have to open the left door and not take out the fuser. The sensor monitors opening and closing of this door. Make sure you change this one with a sensor that has the full black plastic. There is nothing worng with this machine except than this sensor.

Streaks on photo sensitive drum HP laserjet 5MP

Normal 0 Driver could be corrupt.
Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off. I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Magicolor 2530 DL

The streaks are typically a sign of a toner drum going bad, or possibly just dirty, or even caused by the toner being low, as you have mentioned it to be. 1 way I know to 'clean' the drums is to have the printer run multiple blank pages. If your software will not allow you to print blank pages, type a single character by using this little trick, hold down the ALT key, and type 2 5 5 on the number pad in a blank text document. This will allow you to print the "blank" document, I would suggest about 10 copies. This should help for a short duration, and doesn't use any toner.

Hope this helps!
