HI there, I Have a casio cz1 synthesizer, great machine, but, after not having played it for over a decade, I have just brought it out of it's box with the hope of taking it up again. The problem is that it now only plays SOME of the notes SOME of the time, and many that it does play are very scratchy. I have given it a good **** out with the vaccuum cleaner where i can, the keys etc, just in case it was dust but that made no difference. ANy help with this would be greatly appreciated. ANdy. Melbourne Australia.

Hi,
I had a similar thing happen.
Definitely change the internal battery and initialize back to factory settings. Just hold down the red initialize button (top right hand corner) while you turn it on. It will then ask on the LCD - hit "yes".
I also had to change the battery in my external cartridge (if you have one).
There are some great (free & pay for) sound patches on the web for the CZ1 (way better than the presets) you can load them in via midi sysex.

The synth MAY have a backup battery which has depleted and has lost the settings. The audio does not go through the key contacts. The contaacts trigger the sound generators digitally so scratchyness is not from the contacts.

If you find the battery, you will need to do a factory reset to restore the original parameters and operation. This may involve doing a SYSEX MIDI data transfer from a backup file.

No sound on my SY77 yamaha synthesizer

1) Turn the power on.

2) While pressing the [VOICE] button, press and hold the [BANK D] button, then the [8] button. The SY77 will run the INITIAL TEST routine and display the Test Program Menu.

3) Press the [COPY] button. The SY77 will execute Test 48 'Factory Settings', automatically exit the test mode, and then return to play mode.

Hi i have problems with my speakers on my pa 800 ,when i just play tones its clear but when i play the rhytms doesn't play right is not clear

Read your user manual about keyboard split. OFTEN the rhythms use the keys below F sharp for the chording of rhythm. When in this mode, you should restrict your melody to notes above F sharp that is to the left of middle C. If you play melody below this it will confuse the rhythm chording. You can likely change the split point of the keyboard, however, the F sharp split is the standard and I would suggest staying with it.

Do you need a computer to use the Novation UltraNova 37-Key Analog-Modeling Synthesizer

The Keyboard comes with inbuilt sounds (Approx 300 Presets and 200 user patches), so you can play it Live without a computer by simply taking AUX outs and it has a wall power supply adapter. You can also connect it to your computer via USB for additional sounds through VST instruments and Plugins. The USB also powers up the Keyboard without the adapter. Hope this helps.

How do i get a key to play repeatly on a korg microstation 61 key just by holding the key down?

No, synths don't have a repeat feature like computer keyboards. You have to keep playing it.

My casio ct670 ToneBank keyboard isn't making much sound

Check that you don't have old batteries in the unit. Also that the auto power down is not activated.

If using a power adapter make sure it is the RIGHT one, both in polarity and current rating.

Casio synthesizer

First, decide how much money you have to spend. What features do you need on the synth. If you have any friends who play ask them what they are using and if you can try theres out with them showing you the basics. What brand do your favourite artists like and do you like what you hear. The same brand may have beginner keyboards with some of the features you want. Find out what brands your local music dealers carry and look and listen around. You may not be able to afford the newest and flashiest one but they may have an older model on sale. Basic things you will want to consider are a headphone jack and what kind of outputs it has. Do you need midi capabilities right now? If so , does it have In and Out or does it have Thru also. The latter lets you add on using your first keyboard as the controller. Another thing you'll want is an instruction manual that you personally can understand well enough to enjoy your purchase right away. Also portability might be a factor. If you want to take it to a friends place and jam is it well built but still light enough to pack around and if so what will you carry it in to protect it? I can throw some brand names at you but in the end you will be the person who must be completely satisfied with the purchase. All reputable music dealers usually have a person on there staff who plays keyboards and would be more than glad to help you decide. Some good brands to consider are, Casio, Yamaha, Roland, Akai,Korg, Alesis and Kurzweil. I hope this helps some.

Casio ctk-496 claims to be midi keyboard controller

Try downloading MidiOx and troubleshooting with it. It will show you if you have any midi activity and which channel your Casio is transmitting on etc.
