Frost buildup on food and ice around the door is due to warm air infiltration. This sounds like a door closure problem. Be sure that nothing is interfering with the drawer as it closes. Be sure to open the upper door and look down at the drawer top to see that the gasket is hitting the steel frame of the cabinet. Look all the way around the entire drawer front checking the seal.
Also open the drawer and hold it as it closes, so that if there is any food product binding it you will see it get hung open.
Good luck.

I have the same problem - even with the moisture control turned on, the bar where the freezer drawer closes is cold... the seal and insulation are very poor. We have two different Jenn Air refrigerators in the house, the other one is super - this one is junk but I haven't been able to get anyone to take it back. I doubt that the boasted Energy Guide rating is right - this fridge just not properly designed. Plus, the air temperature in the fridge swings wildly... put a thermometer inside and see. This isn't good for properly storing food.

Hi. My KIC 6032 WH is forming ice in the freezer and the door has acquired small rust spots all over. Or the two related? Like the seal allowing cold air into the door itself and causing rust and also...

Ice will always form in a freezer due to humid air entering with ambient or chilled food being placed inside and when the door is opened at other times. Frost free freezers form ice just the same but they have a panel heater to melt the ice, that is switched on for a short time at the end of each cooling cycle. Sometimes a fault leaves it switched on resulting in the compressor running almost constantly, though failing insulation, a faulty door seal or a leak allowing refrigerant to escape will have a similar effect.

The door seal might be failing but it is simple enough to check by closing the door onto a piece of thin paper to ensure the magnetic seal is gripping the paper all around the door perimeter.

From your description it is possible the insulation inside the door is failing and causing cold spots where condensation will form on the outside of the door, eventually causing rust.

It is wise to use a thermometer to ensure the temperature is low enough to provide proper food storage. If 25/27 degrees C below cannot be maintained the necessary repairs are quite urgent.

Model EEV-163F Whirlpool Upright Freezer. Defrosted this week, already seeing ice buildup. Freezer is cold and appears to run fine, but frost buildup seems excessive this quickly. Frost throughout

This freezer is not frost free. Being an upright limiting the amount and frequency of opening the door will reduce the build up of ice. Ice is expected and depending on humidity and quality of seal around door affects the amount of ice.

Using a thin ribbon check the seal integrity around the door. Confirm nothing is prohibiting the full closure of the door.

Adjust door if necessary. Replace seal if defective. Freeze open unsealed items in a frost free freezer before locating frozen food in this unit.

These units are likely located in the garage where the humidity is high. If used only as needed planning transfer between this and the kitchen unit frost can be minimized.

Being a conventional freezer not frost free freezer burn is less likely and frozen food will not dry out as quickly. Confirm that the freezer maintains about 0 degree F.

This unit is likely more efficient and will maintain the food frozen longer in the event of power outage.

Hope this helps?

You need to replace the door gasket. It's leaking air causing the frost.

Upper portion (frig not cooling properly) Lower portion (freezer) forming ice on #3 setting.

Is it forming ice or frost? It sounds like an automatic defrost problem. If the freezer frosts up it won't circulate enough air up to the fresh food compartment. Try defrosting it manually for 24 hours by shutting it down and leaving the freezer door open. Afterwards, if it resumes normal operation I would bet that there is something faulty in the defrost circuit, i.e., defrost heater not working or defrost control.

Freezer is not defrosting

1. Remove all of the food from inside the freezer and place it into the ice chest. Use more than one ice chest, if necessary. Cover the food with ice from a 10 lb. bag of ice. Alternatively, place all of the food from your freezer into the refrigerator compartment, packed tightly together.
2. Place one or two 10 lb. bags of ice into one or two large bowls inside the refrigerator compartment to keep the food chilled. Keep the door to the refrigerator tightly closed and avoid opening it during the freezer defrosting process.
3. Unplug the unit and leave the freezer door open.
4. Let the freezer defrost overnight or for at least eight hours.
5. Use the towels to wipe up the melted ice.
6. Plug in a hair dryer and direct it to the interior of the freezer to melt any remaining ice from the walls and door. Be sure to direct it into the vents of the freezer, too.
7. Wipe up any water from ice melted with the hair dryer from inside and around the freezer.
8. Plug the freezer back into the outlet, and return food still solidly frozen to the freezer compartment from the ice chest or refrigerator. Use any thawed foods within a day or two or discard.

Frost in the freezer

IS IT ICE OR FROST? IF IT IS ICE, THE DOOR MAY HAVE BEEN LEFT CRACKED OPEN.
IF IT IS FROST, IS THIS A FROST FREE FREEZER?
IF YES, IS THE FROST ON THE BACK WALL?
IF YES, THERE IS A DEFROST FAILURE AND YOU WILL NEED TO TROUBLESHOOT THE DEFROST CIRCUIT.
IF THE FROST IS ON THE FOOD OR AROUND THE DOOR OPENING, A SEAL LEAK HAS ALLOWED WARM MOIST AIR INTO THE FREEZER AND CREATED THE FROST. CHECK THE DOOR SEAL FOR A GAP WHEN CLOSED.

Freezer is producing"snow" and freezer burning everything

AFTER A DEFROST,HAVE A GOOD LOOK AT THE DOOR RUBBER. IT MUST BE 100% SEALED FOR A FREEZER. (SHOULD ALSO HEAR A SLIGHT VACUME WHEN DOOR IS SHUT WHEN UP NTO TEMP).ALSO MAKE SURE MOTOR IS SWITCHING OFF AT +/- 20C (TEMP).IF ALLOWED TO RUN CONTINUOUSLY TEMP WILL PULL DOWN TO CREATE EXCESS FROST.
