RICOH FW740 is printing with a ghost image. Can I clean it myself?

Ghost images appear on the printed page because of bad cleaning blade or improper charging of the drum unit. Ghost images appear on the next printed page if cleaning blade does not clean the drum surface. Drum/ photoconductor is very sensitive to light, so special care should taken while pulling it out. Ghost images of the same printing repeated down the page

Run a half test. While printing a few pages, open the cover, pull out the toner and look down at the paper. If you see the ghost images replace the toner. If you don't see the ghost images, replace the fuser.

If you are getting a "shadow" behind the text or image it is probably your fuser that is causing the problem. Anytime you see a double image or the print is smearing the fuser (aka fixing assembly) is to blame. You can troubleshoot the problem to see for sure before calling out a technician. Send a one page test print job to the printer. Open the rear "output" tray so that the print job exits the rear of the printer. Watch the paper as it is pulled into the machine. When you see the leading edge of the print exiting the printer open up the front door of the printer. This will of course cause the machine to jam up but its worth it. Carefully remove the toner cartridge. Look at the print on the page still inside the machine. Do you see the same grey image? If not then the problem is the fuser. If you do see the grey image then the problem is the toner cartridge. Stopping the print job in the middle of the printer like that allows you to see what the image looks like before it goes into the fuser. If the fuser is the problem call a tech. It is about a $100 - 150 repair for the fuser depending on the labor rates where you live.

Ghost printing

Hello,

You have a worn image drum. The drum is the part of the printer that the print image is created on before it transfers the toner to the paper. This part is coated with a very thin layer of Teflon so the toner does not stick. When it gets worn the toner starts to stick and that produces the shadow or ghost image approximately 3 inches down the page because the diameter of the drum roller is 3 inches. You will need to get the part DR-350, Office Depot has them as well as many places on the internet.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

My 2300W prints a second image

Yes, it sounds like a fuser problem, as the oil and coating wear off of the fuser rollers they transfer to the page as you describe. The only way to tell is to stop the machine in a print cycle before the fuser to determine if the problem is before or after the fuser.

Double printing in my samsung 3160 fn

Double printing, such as second "ghost" image has nothing to do with cleaning, but with the drum unit. Print out the System Data Report (Press [MENU] until "System Configuration", then right arrow until "Reports", press [ENTER] and then right arrow until "System Data". Press [ENTER] twice to confirm.

With the report on hand, check the total color prints. If they are near 12,000 pages, change the drum. Be advised, the Image Unit (drum) is an expensive consumable. Part number is CLP-300A.

Be blessed.
