Receiving error My boss keeps trying to fax me and on her end it says busy, but my machine and phone line are both open. Also it just tells me "receiving error, please ask sender to try again", but won't tell me what the error is? I am getting extremely frustrated and don't know what to do....Please help. thanks Lynn

My 1040 fax, the second one I've bought, still does not reliably send faxes. Most of the time, it takes at least 6 tries before it goes through. I call the party I am trying to fax to, and they tell me their line is free and they have been receiving other faxes without any issues.

I bought a second HP 1040 fax because I liked its size and simplicity of style. When my first one started to not work, I figured it may have been struck by lightning, even though there were no outward signs of ignition and no other phones or electronics in my office were problematic.

I called HP tech support about a month ago regarding my second fax machine HP 1040. They suggested I change a setting and that seemed to work the first few times. Now I still get issues and have become rather frustrated in having to deal with tech support in India.

Ok...so I fixed my own problem. I had printed out a system data sheet on my fax machine and found out that the "error" was in under sending confirn, so I went into my menu to the sending confirm section and turned it off. Then my boss tried sending the fax and it came through like nothing was ever wrong...I think the other day when my Iguana got in my office, he must have done something, as I found him perched on my fax machine....hmmmm. Thanks for the follow-up email.

How do i fax on my printer, cos every time I try to send a fax it keeps telling me line busy. So what do I do next?

Once the document is loaded into the printer, you can enter the destination faxnumber on the printer's number pad. ... The printer will scan the page or pages and then send the fax to the number entered. You can find additional helpful videos at hp.Jun 13, 2013
Check for phone line connection issues that might be causing failed sent faxes. Call the fax number you are sending to from a phone: If you do not hear fax tones, the receiving fax machine might be turned off or disconnected. ... Connect the phone line to the 1-Line port, and connect the answering machine to 2-Ext.

Cant receive faxes. constant busy signal when dialing in.

Hi Janet
Try using a standard phone to call your Fax Line
Connect a phone to this Line to test for voice
Disconnect Fax Machine from Phone Line
Reset Fax machine
The Fax machine is supposed to respond to the right tones being sent down the voice line
If it is not responding & all else works then check your Fax settings for "Receiving"

Fax receipt code shows a status code of 0050, What does that mean ?

It means there is no dial tone on the fax line, is the rj11 plugged in properly [ (Line) on the copier, not he one labeled as (TEL) ], is the telephone patch defective, or you have an active phone on the wall jack, (test it it with an ordinary phone), or the receiving party is busy, try later, or try a different nunber.

We cannot receive faxes. Gives a busy signal.

Unplug the phone line from the machine. Wait a few minutes then try calling your fax number from a phone while leaving the phone line disconnected from the machine. If it rings fine from the phone, then re-install the phone line to the fax machine. Try making the call again. If you now get a busy signal then the modem in your fax machine has gone bad and is holding the line open. Make sure when installing the phone line you are placing the cord into the "line" port on the machine and not the phone port.
Good Luck and thank you for using Fixya.

Toshiba Super G3, e-Studio 170F

Fax display screen always reads, "Auto receive". When attempting to fax, the busy light flashes. Busy light stops flashing for 30 seconds, then starts flashing again.
Above is the default settings for the fax.

NGB0 indicates signal error or line condition error.
U need to check the phone line. U can hook any single line phone to the phone line, check for tones without background noise.

Invalid number

Fax machines do not work well or at all on digital lines. They are designed for analog lines, like the standard phone company line. You may have to install a dedicated fax line from your tel. company.
