36XBR450 fix myself?

Sony 36XBR450 power button and I can hear initail power up but no picture, no sound, only 'stand-by' light blinking. Is something loose that I can fix or do I need to get a loan?

our Sony KV-36XBR450, purchased in Feb 2002, just turned itself off tonite and began flashing the red stand-by lite 7 times when powered off and 4 times when powered on... no pictures, no sound but I can hear it try to power up... should I open it up and give it a try, call an expert and prepare to spend some money or drive to Walmart and pick up a new 36 inch set for $400?? I am open to ideas... thx, Jack S.

Most probably, the secondary power output of your TV's switching power supply is not functioning. You have to trouble shoot the secondary power which also leads to HT supply in the Horizontal circuitry.

Sony 36XBR450 power?

You will not be able to service this at home. Most of the time there are failures in the scan amplifiers and or the power supply that cause the fault you are describing.
