Re: Maytag Performa washer (PAV2200AWW v10); purch. 2001? Several problems with this one ... 1) During the wash cycle doesn't agitate properly. The back & forth agitation doesn't seem sufficient so the drum goes into almost a spin (just round & round). Then water spills out over the top of the basket leaking under the machine (luckily in a basement on a concrete floor near a floor drain!). 2) The machine is very easily out of balance. And is very loud during a spin sometimes even during the wash cycle. Occasionally there is a grinding/squeaking noise as the machine finishes up a spin. Is this a belt? Or something worse? And is it something a beginning diy'er can tackle ... Or at least diagnose? I'd appreciate any reference materials or online resources for diagnosis and/or repair as well. Thanks! - Jessica

SOURCE: Grinding sound during agitation cycle on my Maytag Performa

Its probably you stator plate and rotor. But you need special tools for this repair. There a spring that is under 200 pounds of pressure and if you take the screws off that hold the plate its going to fly into you face if your dont use the special tools to depress the spring. Is it more of a clanking kinda of noise? DOes it olnly happen with heavy loads? Try this out. Fill the washer with water only. and get it into a wash cycle with water only. If there is no noise then put in like a load of towels. A heavy load. Now if you hear the noise now then its for sure you stator plate and rotor..hope this helps, but like i said you need those special tools to do this repair or injury can result from the spring part.

My Performa started leaking from the Drain Pump rubber gasket. It had dryrotted. However, Maytag doesn't make a replacement O-ring gasket. You have to buy the whole new pump! Thanks Maytag.

SOURCE: Maytag Performa Washer niosy during wash-cycle. Spins OK and without any noise.

It is so common that the washing machine can make terrible noise in many ways and is a common fault. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that machine is vibrating when it is running then the motor /drum suspension has to be inspected. Since these fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for the noise with a good inspection lamp. Manually turn the motor and drum and listen for the noise, if so the motor bearings, the drum agitator shaft and fittings must be checked. Also the suspensions which include the shock absorbers and springs, the body clamps must be checked to be in correct alignment and not changed in position. Tightening of the mounting is also very important. Finally in most cases a drop of OIL or smear of grease on the moving parts cane solve most issues.

I have a Maytag Performa Top Loader PAV2200AWW it will not spin. Previously made a loud noise. Should I repair or invest in a new one?

This is a simple fix. All you need is the transmission pulley and bearing.
Here is a link to the kit you need. It is under $50.00 and should only take less then 30 minuets to fix. Also, I included a video to walk you thru the process.

My Maytag Performa Washer is making a scratching noise during the spin cycle. Any ideas what it could be?

The problem could be due to few things.

1.There is a seal underneath the nut that holds the air bell housing on.

2.A faulty agitator component, there is a plastic hub that connects the
agitator to the motor and this can become worn.

3.Finally it can be the transmission, this is most likely your problem.

Maytag washer squeaks when spin cycle stops

We have a Maytag Performa G3300 that we bought on 8/13/2001. It still works great, but on 2/25/10 it stopped heating. We found that by removing the front panel and vacuuming the accumulated lint on the inside of the dryer and the door, the problem was resolved. There were no parts to replace, just vacuuming.

Maytag Performa - Loud Noises during Spin Cycle

This washer is JUNK!!!!!! We have the same washer (2 1/2 years old) and same problem. Tried to replace the bearing myself, no luck. So I called a repair man to come out and look at it. As soon as i told him the model number, they would'nt even come out. Very common problem for this washer. We are on our way to Sears to purchase a Kenmore.....GOOD LUCK

Agitation issues. Everything else appears/works normally.

I just encountered the same problem. I think the operation of the machine is such that the motor turns one direction for the spin cycle, and the other direction for the agitate cycle. I am replacing my motor, as I think i have a bad winding on the reverse. I will let you know.
