Two things to look at---------the lamp to see if shattered inside AND with it removed look where it faces at the color wheel--see attached photo.
Look to see if any segments are broken, missing etc. Many of the wheels fail in this way and some will have a high pitched or even fan like sound before they fail.
Some when really bad will make a grinding noise also. The set monitors the speed of the wheel and if it slows or stops the set will almost instantly turn the lamp off(if possible watch from area where lamp is to see if at turn on to see if it for a moment lights or not.
This generally indicates an issue with the backlight inverter loading the power supply. The inverter assembly is easily replaced in this panel and costs approx. $90-140 depending on your parts store. Please use caution when working with this component, it produces the very high voltages required to illuminate the screen.
Good luck to you.
This is is due to a faulty resistor probably the B+(R950)..On the power supply control circuit..If you know how to use a multimeter you can easily find the faulty one...And replace it.However if you are not good at electronics i advice that you give it for service coz its not gonna cost you too much..Dont delay the repair as it can damage the more expensive components in the Tv. Good luck! Eagle.
