Hi,

The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.

Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.

If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

Thanks for using Fixya.

When you press the menu button there should be a 'language' choice tab. If the menu is in Russin I would suggest that either write down all of the choices and have them translated to determine which says language. OR, go down to each tab and enter it using the up down arrow keys to step to the next tab and the right arro key to enter each tab untill you find the you that gives choices in languages of the choice. ie/ English, Espanol, ....These choices are writen in that language. Select english and go from there.

the red light flashing tells you and a service person why the tv will not power up . if you have test equipment to work on electronic equipment then we can move forward if not ,your tv will need parts replaced or board replaced . you dont have a failure that you can change a setting or push a reset button to repair . you will need to get in there with equipment inject signals, look at waveforms ,and check voltages . and know what you are doing with the information you gather ...the other answer you need to send it out for repair .... most repairs on this set will run 100.00-200.00 for common problems .........Please if this answer helped , please rate this 3 or 4 stars . and keep me in the paid answer department . A 1 or 2 may knock me down into the unpaid ranks. Thanks Cactus Bob .

Sony tv's have a myriad of problems that prohibit the High Voltage from activating. The flashing red light indicates the standby circuits are functioning correctly. You problem lies in the H>V section.A shorted horizontal output transistor or even poor connections on the horizontal drive transformer could cause this problem. To properly diagonose this problem,it must go to a service facility that is familiar with Sony servicing. Usually Sony repairs are not cheap. It is imperative that only Sony original parts are used. If the set switches ON when you shake it, or shake some wires inside (after opening the back cover) then in all likelihood you have a 'dry' or 'cold' solder. These are not easy to track, and so best left to a professional technician. call for a service tech.
