Mp140 printer- do I have to put both black and color cartridges? I have only black here and printer has an error.

Yes both ink cartridges need to be installed in the printer for it to work.

You will either need to purchase new Canon ink cartridges for your printer or refill your old ones.

Take care!

I've just changed the black ink cartridge on a canon mp140 without changing the colour one but it still won't work. Do i have to change the colour one too because i only want black?

Hi both of the ink cartridges need to have ink in if one is empty then it just wont work, a lot of people think they can just replace the black but find out they need to replace both to be able to use the printer, their is no way around this and their are no settings you can change to turn the color ink off,

sorry their is no easy solution but without replacing the color as well it just keeps giving you warning and wont allow you to print anything

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Canon MP140 fails to print

I don't think that has anything to do with reaching the board of 5000 copies. Your cartridges have no chips on them or anything. You might actually have a problem with your black ink cartridge, as the printer is telling you. Remove the black cartridge, gently wipe the contacts with a dry cloth and put it back in. Hold the "resume" button (triangle in circle) for about 10 seconds to try and reset your cartridge. If none of that works, I suggest you buy a new black ink cartridge.

Coloured ink not registering

You can only refill those cartridges if you do it before the ink is empty. After that you need a new cartridge or a chip resetter to reset the chip on the cartridge so it will work again.

New ink not recognized

You have probably purchased refilled cartridges. Try to replace with genuine ink cartridges will solve out your problem.

I placed a re-filled ink cartridges in my canon mp140 printer and

Computer chips in cartridges must be reset before the printer will recognize them as full. If you paid a shop to refill your cartridges take them back and complain. The best places will test the refilled cartridge before giving it to you.

Please note durability of prints using cheap ink is usually very poor, and as a result the manufacturers ink is usually much the better choice.
