Dryer won't start in Frigidaire FGX831CS0 stackable. Assumed it was a bad start switch because honey bunny had broken the knob off and was using a pliers to start it but have replaced that and still nada, nothing, zip. Got the dryer repair guys on speed dial but wondering if there is something else obvious that I'm missing before I call. Checked circuit breaker panel and that's fine as well. Washer portion still works fine. Stumped and soggy clothed in Chicago

lid or door switch could be bad

sounds like the motor for the dryer is going bad check for obstruction in blower wheel housing

turn the start and it's like the drum gets stuck. then starts smelling like burning.

The dryer will not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.

Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch will not activate and the dryer will not start. Replace the lever, if broken.

Note: Door switch actuator lever usually comes with the door switch assembly and it is recommended to get the whole assembly since there is almost no price difference between the door switch assembly and just the lever.


I would also check the thermal fuse as well. it is located on the vent duct or blower housing. If this fuse is damaged or tripped, it will not allow the dryer to run as well.

my washer fills up with water but will not drain

It could be the belt was partially broken, and as it came apart causing the dryer to no longer start,,, it made the noise your talking about. If the dryer still heats up, and you can hear the motor running,,, these would all be signs toward a broken belt.

The switch may be bad or just not engaging when the door is closed. To test it you could tape something to the inside of the door right where the door meets the switch and see if it comes on. I did that and it worked. I use it as a temp. fix.
