I have a Compaq Presario F500 When I press the power button all the lights light up for a few seconds then it shuts back off

remove the battery then try to plug the charger directly on your laptop without a battery.. to test if the battery is working properly. if not.. maybe your main board have a problem. just like athe compaq presario of my friend. also mainboard problem.

Compaq Presario F500 has bad motherboard per MicroCenter techs. Replace? Repair? Cost? DIY? I have never worked on a laptop, but not afraid to try.

there are a lot of very tiny screws and nuts and connections that to my knowledge of working on them is, is if you do not have the knowledge without some supervision. do not attempt... it would be a costly venture.. if damage happened. but if you sre hell bent on doing it, ask someone who knows to show you how...good luck.. ps it is a good field to get into and at times frustrating. but, fun..
