Router does not accept mac address

I purchased a toshiba laptop and when I entered the mac address the router would not accept it stating invalid address. The mac address is something like: 70:1A:0D:F5:1A:01 not exact address but does start with 70. How do I get the router to accept the mac address? Thanks Dean

I am not too familiar with NetGear routers, but all linksys routers have mac address filters, this allows the router to only accept connections from previously stated mac addresses. I never had to do such a thing for my wireless printer, but this could be the problem. Usually wireless printers just ask for a security code (WEP/etc.) and connect on their own. Sorry i cant be anymore direct.

There is a reset switch ( pin hole ) at the back of the router press it with a pin ( thumbtack) hold for 10 sec and the router will go back to factory settings and that will allow you to start over again, and you don't need to use your mac address to set your PC on the network ip address is normally enough, just part of the mac is use by TCP-IP to reply to you when sending a request to the Internet.

Does anyone know how to Do MAC address filtering on Thomson TG782T router?

1st. Have a look at the wireless card that is inserted in your computer, check the label it, will have the MAC address printed on the label. If the wireless card is inside the laptop then have a look at the properties of the wireless card - it should give the MAC address of the wireless card.

2nd. Connect a LAN cable to the wireless router and enter the router's configuration URL address and go to the wireless configuration - then click on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless card.

The router will only allow the MAC addresses that are in this table to connect to the router.

Is there any other computer connected to the network and able to go online.
If yes then check the wireless settings of the router.
If the laptop is the only 1 computer then you will need to connect the laptop to the router and open the router set up page and check the wireless settings.

I have just purchased a new MAC and need the WEP password to connect to the internet. How do I get this password? I have a Dell router

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address.
3. Enter the router setup, login and password
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

Simultaneous wireless connection with a DI 614+

You should check settings for connection filtering or IP address reservation in your router - definitely the problem is in the router.
Double check if you manualy specified in your router which computers can connect and/or from which IP.

My suggestion is that you should reset your router to factory settings (small reset button on the back of your router) and try connecting then. If everything works after hardware reset, keep those settings and just set access password.

Good luck,
