Sony STR-DG510 Hi, I want to run HD video and 5.1 sound through the HDMI cable hooked up to the DVD input on the Sony STR-DG510. However the amp. display is telling me that it is on 'COAX' and I can't change it to HDMI even when pressing 'INPUT MODE'. How can I get Audio and Visuals running throught the one HDMI cable in the DVD socket? Regards - BAH

I have this unit also. Fiber optic is the way to go. Actually I wanted the best sound available anyway (isnt that the purpose of a surround anyway) so I had already purchased the fiber optic cable before the receiver so I was surprised by the passive mode but for me anyway at least it wasnt an extra trip to the store. FYI cables are always 80% cheaper on the internet!!!

I think you have to run a separate audio line from the dvd to the 510, because the HDMI is only passive

NO AUDIO/set up problems

For this Sony, you have to use separate audio cable(s). Either optical in BD or Digital Audio in DVD (single coaxial cable will do the trick) I bet the display says UNLOCK. I had the same problem, very dumb.

Good day!

Sony str-dg820. having a problem getting video on tv

Hook up Composite / Component Monitor Out wire from receiver to TV video input because receiver will not change analog input into HDMI
You need to connect receiver and TV through analog video terminals as above.
Actually you are expecting that receiver will convert DVD player and Xbox analog video input into digital HDMI signal for TV and This is incorrect.

No Video or Audio on HDMI on Sony STR-DG800

The sony device may not be able to support the Toshiba. Make sure that is completely compatible and that you have the correct cables and setting to support everything.

I am using an HDMI cable on my STR-DG710 and get no sound

A lot of devices like PS3, HD DVD Players, Cable boxes, etc., require you to define on the setup menu if sound will be coming out of the HDMI cable or not. Most of these devices can be set to HDMI Auto, but not all of them do.

I currently have both my Blu-ray and HD DVD player outputting both video and sound through my HDMI into my STR-DG710. Both devices are setup to output sound through the HDMI.

But like the other person on here posted, it you have a DVI to HDMI cable, you won't be getting sound. The only device that will output sound from a DVI to HDMI are select computer graphics adapters like the GeForce 9800 GT series video cards, and even not all of those will have this feature.

Hope this helps.

No picture?

I called sony, even though the manuel shows that you can use a component wire to hook up the set top box and hdmi for the tv and dvd sony claims that you can not do this. The cable box must also be wired with an hdmi cable going into the video 2 port.sony claims it doesn't work using component and hdmi together because the receiver is unable to up convert. I hope this helps. I have not tried it yet (i'm at work) we'll see what happens when i get home.
