No dial tone and "line in use " message

My phone line has no dial tone and in the base set i have a"line in use" message. When I call from any phone to my house it rings forever without any response

I've had the same problem for the last couple of days. The base says line in use, no dial tone and if you call my number it just rings. I tested the line outside, and that is fine. Also, it will start working all of a sudden, be OK for a while, and then go out again. No rhyme or reason. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried plugging different phones into the jacks, but still no dial tone.

  • Petedelu Mar 02, 2008

If you are talking about the wire from the jack to the phone, I've tried different phones with different wires and still no luck. As I stated, at times it will start working for a while (for example, it worked all day yesterday, until this morning when it just went out again).

Found the problem. It was a cracked wire from the junktion box to the house. A little splicing fixed it right up.

    Thanks.

There's a short circuit insideon your telephone, an electrical dc could be that make the unit not working.

  • Anonymous Mar 02, 2008

Take a look at the buttom part of the telephone, i know there's a switch like LP & DP mode.

  • Anonymous Mar 02, 2008

Oh.. I think and maybe you also think this, there's no problem on your unit, i guess the problem is on the line. It is a better option for you to call your Telephone Network Provider to make a test on the line, some calibration from them with the line will fix the problem.

    Thanks,

SOURCE: no dial tone and "line in use " message

Try the simple things first. Try a different phone. In my case, I had the phone company check - outside was fine. After two hours my phone worked. I figured out what happened in my case. Both phones were dead (battery). I think one died with the phone off the hook. once the phones were fully charged, the phone worked.

It\'s in system programming: feature CONFIG, Terminals & Sets, enter ext #, Prime Line: set to I/C (for intercom dial tone) or Line xxx. It is probably set to None based on your description.

Phone not working

Hi Pam,
Try these..1...remove your telephone line from base unit and fix it into a working land phone and check whether is it having normal dial tone.If it's having engage tone(beep beep...)remove paralleled phones and re connect to cordless base unit.
2.If line is ok (normal dial tone with full volume) & still display indicates line is busy, your main base unit must be having faulty components inside.Commonly these defects happen in thundering or surges through telephone lines. You have to take full set to a repair shop.

I have 2 problems. 1. The orange message light will not stop flashing no matter what I do. 2. Some how the system was switched from touch tone to dial tone. I can't seem to that switched either.

Resetting the voice message waiting indicator
When you receive a new voice mail message, the new message LED on the top of the handset flashes. In the event your message waiting light gets out of sync with your phone company's
voice messaging system, you can manually reset it back to the "No messages waiting" state.
1. Press and hold FiND on the base for five seconds.
Note: The handsets connected to the base will start to beep, however, keep pressing for five seconds.
2. A beep sounds and the message alert tone is reset.
Changing the dial mode
Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most base networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you will need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, please follow the steps below to modify your phone's settings:
1. Press MENU/SELECT.
2. Select the Global Setup menu, and then the Dial Mode submenu.
3. Scroll to highlight Pulse.
4. Press MENU/SELECT. You will hear a confirmation tone.
If you ever need to change the dial mode back to tone dialing, follow the same procedure, but select Tone in step 3.

Finally for future ease of use, here is a link to the user manual were I copied the above information from:

The phone lights up when put to charge also the red light on the base,, but when the phone line is connected it wont work ..What do u think is the problem?

The battery in the handset could be bad . First I would test that the base unit is recieving dial tone by pressing speaker button on base unit. If there is dial tone then problem is in handset or in base unit communication to handset. Try resetting power to base unit. Check manual for any re-initialization procedure. If the base unit is not receiving dial tone then I would test that the phone line is delivering dial tone to the base unit by connecting a known good phone to the line cord. If the dial tone is not present , problem could be in line cord from outlet, outlet, building wiring, or service provider.

Need to change phone back to tone dialing

Here's what the manual says: Changing the Dial Mode (Tone or Pulse Dialing) (HS1 only) Your phone can communicate with the telephone network in two different ways: tone dialing or pulse dialing. These days, most phone networks use a method called tone dialing, so your phone comes programmed for tone dialing. If your phone company uses pulse dialing, you need to change your phone's dial mode. If you don't get a dial tone or can't connect to the telephone network, follow the steps below to modify your phone?s settings: With the phone in standby, press and hold [cid/menu]. Press [vol/ / ] to move the pointer to select DIAL. Press [select/channel] to set the phone to pulse dialing. Press [end]. Return the handset to the base. The handset communicates the new setting to the base, and the base activates the setting on any other handsets. Hope this helps out. K
