Types first line fine, when hit return, stops in middle and won't move

Try a little WD40 on the silver shaft that the carrier slides on they do get gummy, if that fails spray some on the carrier motor bearings. It is in the Right rear under the case. You can reach the front one by moving the carrier to the left. The rear one you'll have to fish the straw through the case.

How can I get my typewriter back to its intial settings

There is no keystroke pattern to reset the EM series typewriter. There are two methods to reset this typewriter.
1.You can reset the daisywheel and remain on the same line of type, simply lift the top cover and then close it back down. The carrier will move to the left, reset the daisywheel and return to the last space typed.
NOTE: This will not affect the format settings (bold, underline, etc)
2.If you want to abandon the current typing position; turn off the typewriter, wait 10 seconds for the power supply to reset and then turn the typewriter back on. The typewriter will reset and the carrier will return to the beginning of the current line.
NOTE: Turning off the power will restore the format settings to standard default settings (bold, underline, etc).

I have an old Sears Electric Portable Typewriter, Model No. 871.53003854, Model: 5ASJ. I have not used it in about eight years (was stored uncovered in basement). I cleaned it up, plugged it in and heard...

THE BELT ON THE SIDE IS EITHER BROKEN OR HAS A CURL IN IT FROM LONG STORAGE. IF IT DOESNT HAVE A CURL YOU CAN CLEAN IT WITH RUBBING ALCOHOL ON A Q TIP. DONT TURN ON THE MOTOR WHILE DOING THIS

Selectric II Pitch-shift lever won't change from 12 tom 10

If you haven't changed the pitch for a long time the lubricants dry up, if you have some WD40 spray it in the slot inthe margin bar where the L. & R. margin levers ride. Give it a few minites to work.

Hello, my dryer got wet due to my basement flooding and it starts, but no heat.

It is highly risky to use any electric appliance even after the removal of flood water. Before using it you need to make sure that it is not wet from either inside or outside. Even a single drop of water can cause a short circuit at you home and can also lead to unfortunate event. In such case you need to search for a company like http://floodfixer.com/ that dries wet basements to ensure your safety. Professionals can bring your valuable possessions back to its original position and make them ready for reuse.
