It sounds like you may have set up your network incorrectly, after previously using a dial up modem to connect online. Is that the case?'
If so, you will no longer connect using the dial up modem, but need to set up a new network connection for your new router (hardware).
At any rate, please review these HP support articles that may help you to troubleshoot the network setup and/or connection. See here, here, and here. You may find other articles that pertain to your notebook here.
You don't mention the specific router model you're using, nor which OS you're running, but I'll guess you still have xp, and suggest you also see the ms suppport articles to guide you through network setup and troubleshooting here. Another excellent resource to help you with network troubles is this website. You'lll have to look around there for what pertains to your particular setup....
Good luck.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

DIR-815 Signal strength excellent but no internet

Possibly the power outage caused your modem to reset. The wired connection would still work. first thing I would try is to reset the modem with the reset button, login to the management console and put in your network name and password again.

Installed Trendnet wireless adapter. Connection shows excellent but can't browse internet

The "excellent" is the signal-strength between your wireless adapter
and your wireless router.
You still need to select the SSID ("network name") that you configured into the router, and enter the password for your network, before you can connect to the Internet.
Compare it to having a brand-new mobile telephone. Until you dial a friend's number, and the friend answers, all you have is an "excellent" telephone.

I can't get internet connection even though it says my connection strength is "excellent."

The netbook is working fine. The WiFi connection or SPID may require you to login as in it is a protected signal. The "Excellent" means that you are receiving an excellent signal from the router. What you want is internet access which is upstream of that. Try a different SPID or connection.

Hi I have installed a netgear wireless usb adapter wg111v3 onto a PC (on another PC i have a netgear DG834GT router). After installing the adapter the "signal strength" is EXCELLENT and the "status" is...

You might not be getting a correct ip from your wireless router.

first, try to power down the computer and your netgear router for about a minute or two. turn the router on first. once the lights are stable on the router, boot up your computer. if your still not able to access the internet. try this

go to start > control panel > network and internet > network connections or network and sharing center > right click on wireless network connection and go to properties > highlight "internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" > left click on properties, the wireless network connnection properties will then be opened.
make sure that the radio buttons are on "obtain an ip address automaticaly" & "obtain DNS server address automaticaly".

Wireless Network Connection constantly reading low/vlow/no signal

There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router.
1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up.
2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? ie. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router.
3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply).
4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

I cant connect to the internet with WPN111

Attach a wired connection and see if it works. Then try and attach using wireless with WEP disabled. If you can in both these cases, then check WEP, use the hex key as your passkey instead of the actual passkey. Also make sure that both your access point and you laptop are B/G. If the standards don't match you won't work.
