SOURCE: ilo 27 inch hdmi/dvi hd tv monitor

Hi, I'm afraid that not only a cable is needed but an analog (vga) to digital (dvi) converter/scaler as well. The iLo LCD Display V27DMBX-U12 can hook up to a PC using the DVI-I connection only. As you said, your computer has the standard 1D15 pin VGA connector. Another possibility is if your video card has a composite video output (normally a color yellow RCA female) or an S-Video output which will both connect direct to your iLo LCD Display V27DMBX-U12. For the RCA connection all you need is an ordinary RCA to RCA shielded wire cable and for the S-Video, an S to S Video cable will work. There is of course the question about the quality or the resolution. Good luck and hope that this be of some help to you. Pls post again how things turn up. Kind regards.

SOURCE: connecting my laptop to my tv

I have exactly the same problem with my Sony Vaio. It seems to be a problem with the graphic board. Samsung needs a special signal over vga to unlock the PC-mode. There are only few Laptop graphic boards which send this signal on startup.

I haven't found a solution yet. But you may try to get a newer driver from:

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

Please tell me it worked out for you.

SOURCE: Laptop to Samsung TV via VGA cable - unsuccessful !!

The greyed out option indicates that no signal has been detected. Page 30 of the operations manual lists the supported display settings. Make sure that the laptop "screen" is within this range. Also, try making sure that the laptop is connected BEFORE you power on the set. There may be a glitch there.
Keep us posted.

SOURCE: HOW TO CONNECT SAMSUNG LCD TV TO ACER ASPIRE

Atlast I got some help from the right people (Samsung)! I would like to share it with others facing the same problem:

If you are using the D-sub 15 pin jack (VGA Monitor Cable: make sure its 15 pin and NOT 14 pins), follow these steps:

  1. Make sure your TV and computer are off.
  2. Using a 15 pin D-sub (standard) video cable, connect the Video Out jack on your computer's video card to the PC In jack on the back of your TV.
  3. Using an audio cable with a min-stereo plug on one end and two RCA jacks on the other, connect the Audio Out jack on your computer to the left and right PC Audio In jacks on your TV. (Note: If you have your computer connected to separate speakers, you can skip this step)
  4. Switch on the Notebook and Adjust the Resolution (800 x 600 pixels would do). You can go to Control Panel and Adjust the screen resolution. (Keep ‘Screen Refresh rate’ at 60hz in the Monitor Settings)
  5. Switch on the TV and try to Select the Source as 'PC' (you can do this by either pressing the 'Source' button several times on your TV remote or go to the Menu - Setup and Select the 'PC' as source there).
  6. In most cases, after following the above steps, the TV would start to show 'Auto Adjusting' message and it will start showing your Desk top on the TV. But incase it doesn't work, you can do the following:
a. Mostly the problem lies with the VGA cable. Make sure you have the right one (15 pin) and its securely attached at both ends. If you are not using the right VGA Cable, it means that there is no connection between your TV and Notebook. Your TV will show 'PC' in Grey in the Source Input list (Go to ‘Menu’ from the TV remote).
b. Both your Notebook and TV should be switched off when you are connecting the cable otherwise one of them might have a problem detecting the other one.
c. Try Pressing Fn + F5, F6, F7 (depends on which Notebook brand you are using) on your Notebook several times. At times, you will see some signs that the Notebook and TV are trying to connect. Select 'CRT' from list of displays available to you.

SOURCE: LG 37LC7D Connect to VGA from a PC

Your right. I just had the same "Invalid Input" issue as well and it completely relates to the resolution compatability with any VGA or HDMI connection. Check the LG website for the online manual if you don't have it and see the section on RGB-PC cable. There is a table that incdicates the Resolutions the LG product is capable of displaying.

Thanks for the help.

Struggling to connect my Goodmans Freeview+ HD recorder (HDMI output) to either the DVI (female) or VGA (female) input of my Samsung LE27T61B TV which is HD ready with a resolution of 1366 x 768.

They are different protocols. You have to have a converter than changes the protocol (protocol is like a language...it needs to be translated to a different language). They are available from eBay or amazon but they don't always work very well. Best thing to do is get a unit with the correct connections.

How to Connect Laptop to Projector

How to display computer image on TV or projector
How to display a computer image on a TV or projector All modern televisions and projectors have one or more ports which allow them to receive and display an image generated by a computer. Both desktop and laptop computers are capable of connecting to a TV or projector, provided that they have the appropriate cables. The following sections contain instructions for using your TV or projector as a computer monitor. For best results, we recommend reading them in order.
Identifying available connections
Connecting computer and projector or TV
Display using Desktop
Display using Laptop
I don't see an image on my TV screen

Identifying available connections The first step in connecting your computer to a TV or projector is finding an identical port on both machines. Once the matching port has been identified (one that is the same on both your input device and output device), you need the appropriate cable to connect them. This section contains a picture of the back of an Epson projector and its available connection ports; as well as descriptions of each.

find-connect-projector-option-vga-hdmi-zonwsocbr3qazne24mugrpvs-1-0.jpg
HDMI
The HDMI connection is very popular among display electronics. In fact, nearly all modern televisions and projectors feature HDMI ports. Most laptop computers support HDMI and it is becoming more prevalent on both desktop as well; even without a high-end video card. HDMI is quickly becoming the standard for all electronic equipment for its high quality signal and ability to carry both audio and video signals. The image to the right is that of an HDMI cable.

find-connect-projector-option-vga-hdmi-zonwsocbr3qazne24mugrpvs-1-1.jpg VGA
The VGA connection is the most common among both desktop and laptop computers, is found on most projectors, and some TVs. The VGA cable has a 15-pin connector on each end that plugs into a VGA port on each device. Due to the fact that most televisions do not support VGA, we recommend using HDMI for their wider range of compatibility.

find-connect-projector-option-vga-hdmi-zonwsocbr3qazne24mugrpvs-1-2.jpg Tip:VGA cabling is universal for devices that support it. For example, the if your desktop monitor that uses a VGA cable it, that same cable can be used by a laptop to connect it to a projector.
Note: If you are using an Apple desktop or laptop you need a VGA adapter to connect a VGA cable to the computer.

DVI
The DVI connection is newer than VGA and it offers a sharper image. Although the DVI port is not shown on the Epson model above, it is still somewhat common for projectors, not so much for televisions. It is mostly found among desktop computers for monitors, but some laptops have DVI connections as well (Apple laptops are more commonly known to support DVI than any other brand of laptop). Since finding DVI on a TV or projector is more difficult, we again recommend using HDMI cables.
Tip: There are special cables that convert from DVI to VGA or DVI to HDMI and vice versa.

find-connect-projector-option-vga-hdmi-zonwsocbr3qazne24mugrpvs-1-3.jpg
Composite Video
The composite video connection is quite common on a TV or projector, but it is nearly nonexistent on modern computers. This connection is the yellow female cable on what is normally a three bundle of red, white, and yellow. The only time you should see this setup is on older video cards for desktop computers.
S-Video
The S-Video connection is also commonly found on TVs and projectors, but solemnly on a desktop or laptop computer. This connection is a small step up from composite video, but is nearing obsolescence.

Connecting computer and projector or TV After you've identified what connections are available on both your computer and TV or projector, you're ready to connect the cables. If the same connections are not available for both the computer and TV or projector, you'll need to purchase a video converter cable that converts one signal into a compatible signal.

Desktop Computers For a desktop, you simply need to plug the cable into the computer and output device. If you don't see an image, you may need to change the display using the following steps.
  1. Press the Windows Key.
  2. Type Adjust screen resolution and press Enter.
  3. Find Display and click the down arrow on the right-hand side of the box.
  4. Select the appropriate output device.
  5. Click Apply then OK.

Laptop Computers If you're connecting a laptop computer to a TV or a projector you'll often need to "send" the video signal to the display device. The key sequence to do this varies depending on the laptop; but usually it's either: Fn + F3, F4, F5, F8, or F9. For example, pressing and holding Fn + F3 at the same time on my laptop sends the video signal to my connected TV instead of the laptop's screen. The corresponding key used with Fn may be labeled as CRT/LCD or have a picture of a monitor on or close to the key. Additional help and information with switching the laptop display can also be found on the link below.
Switching TV inputs Finally, if you're connecting a computer to a TV make sure it has been switched to the correct input. For example, if you connected an HDMI cable to your computer and the "HDMI 2" port on your TV, you'll need to switch to the "HDMI 2" input. This action can be accomplished by pressing the input button on your TV remote until the correct image is displayed.

HOW CAN I CONNECT MY SATELLITE C660-10T TO MY TV?

Hi. You need a VGA cable, the same that is used for Desktops (from monitor to base unit). Connect it to your laptops VGA port (a square(ish) port with holes in it), the the other end to a similar port on your TV. Switch laptop and TV on, connect your TV to PC input (read your manual if you are unsure), then on your Laptop select Fn and F8 or F5 (look for the Function key with two square boxes - or a small laptop and a larger box). Pressing those keys together will push the image to your TV.

How to hook up Dell laptop to Samsung Dlp tv?

Your Dell D620 only has a VGA Port for output to a external monitor or tv. Your TV will need to have a VGA Port too, otherwise you will need some type of adapter that goes between the laptop and the tv to convert to the type of connection the tv has (svideo, hdmi, dvi, etc.)

One you have the two connections set up to communicate with each other, just select the input source on the tv (pc, computer, hdmi, etc) and then reboot the computer if the image is not show.

After rebooting if the image is not shown, then you will need to toggle the display by some keystrokes. Press and Hold the Fn function key at the lower left hand portion of the keyboard, then hit the F8 key which toggles the display to be either on the laptop only, tv only, both the laptop and tv.

How to conect my laptop to LCD

It depends on the laptop connections. First make sure that your computer is sending data to the port (particularly VGA); you may have to access the BIOS to change the setting (often F1 or F2 on restart). If you have a VGA port on the laptop, get a video cable (VGA-VGA) and connect the two together (this is usually a blue port and you need M/M ends). Then enable in the graphics properties (right click on the display where there are no icons or running program). You want the section that lets you choose sending to the external monitor, the laptop monitor or showing the same contents on both. The version of your OS may alter which command you need (you can also access this in the Control Panel (Display). You may need to restart the computer with the TV on to get the computer to recognize the TV. Set the TV to have the source the PC input. Also connect the speaker cable from the laptop to the TV if you want to use the TV's speakers (there is an audio port next to the VGA port that I believe is a 3.5 mm jack (would need a stereo 3.5 mm m/m cable between the two). Make sure you select the optimum resolution of 1360 x 768.

If you have an HDMI port on the laptop (newer laptops), get an HDMI cable (m/m) and connect the two. Set the TV to DVI or HDMI source (depending on if you need the audio cables separate) and reboot the computer. Then enable the display, as above. I believe you still need the audio cable as well (should use a 3.5 mm stereo to RCA R/L (red/white) cable) look for the DVI audio next to the HDMI/DVI port.

I hope this helps.

(my understanding is that computer HDMI ports do not send the audio but you should check your laptop manual.)
