SONY BRAVIA HIGH DEF KDL-26M3000

I bought this TV 2 weeks ago and used it with component cables without issue. I bought and installed an HDMI cable yesterday and whenever I change to channel 1 a few minutes later (sometimes immediately) I get snow and general picture distortion and then I unplug it and replug it in and my picture and sound is fine. Any ideas?

This TV is almost 8-10 yeas old, in that time the HDMI specification is not firmly set, the problem in most of the case is compatible problem. You may log in SONY website, try to up date the firmware; in other possibility that the main board may be bad.

SOURCE: connecting Bravia to PC using HDMI cable

You did okay but the phono sockets are not for Computer/TV use. Phono sockets should be checked int the manual on why they're there. If you have connected the Bravia to your computer, using the appropriate cable, then you should also purchase or request from the retailer where you purchased the TV a cable that has stereo phono plugs and, you didn't say what size phono sockets they are but I presume they are 3.5 mm. So, if the TV has 3.5 mm sockets, you purchase a cable with stereo 3.5 mm plugs. This is adequate for the stereo wav sound coming from the computer and going into the TV. Remember, having 2 Phono inputs on the TV doesn't mean anything. The TV could have a number of video inputs too, ATD AVT, AV, COMPONENT1, COMPONENT2, HDMI1, HDMI2, HDMI3, etc. each have it's respective sound inputs for AV, S-VIDEO, DVD, Blue-Ray, etc. But for the computer there may be a different type of socket for it's sound inputs, normally it is the old phono sockets. Seek help from the retailer or else you could cook the circuitry of the TV's sound system.

SOURCE: My Bravia KDL-40S4100 lost all 3 of it's HDMI

There is a problem with the processor. The only way to resolve this issue is to replace the main board. It is called the A board in your TV.

There are two for this model and the correct one will depend on what your serial number is.

Part numbers are as follows:
part # 185709211 for Serial #
1,000,001 - 1,350,000
1,700,001 - 1,750,000
1,800,001 - 1,804,270
1,804,271 - 1,818,372
1,818,373 - 1,830,000
list price: $504.87 core charge: $680.00

part # 185709231 for all other serial numbers
list price: $505.87 core charge: $600.00

Testimonial: "Thanks, Now I wonder who all shares the same problem and if Sony is willing to do something about their defective products..."

SOURCE: hdmi port stopped working on sony bravia

I have a Sony Bravia model KDL-46s5100 that had the same problem. All HDMI ports stopped working. I don't know why this works but unplug the TV for about 30 sec, then plug it back in and hold down the power button on the tv for 10 seconds. Like I said I don't know why this works but it worked for me. Good luck.

Trouble hooking up sony components..Bravia, Home theatre, blu-ray

Got your post, I will work with the model #s. Get back with you soon. Also a tip for now: HDMI carries true digital video and audio so you may not need the optic cables.

Periodic tv screen blackouts

The problem is your cable box. I know you said you replaced it, but I work on TV's everyday and, sorry to say this but cable box HDMI outputs have serious issues, like no or intermittent sound and video. I have seen customers exchange their cable boxes 5 and 6 times and still have the problem. Your best bet is to use the component outputs of your cable box, visually you will not see a picture difference between component and HDMI when using a cable box. Your other solution is to get satellite; I have NEVER seen an HDMI issue with a satellite box

BRAVIA TV KDL-40V2500

i had the same problem and the only way i could solve it was to disconnect power from the tv, let it "reset" then it would be ok for a bit. the problem went away entirely when the cable company updated its software for its hd box. might be coincidence....

also, pre-update, the resolution wouldnt automatically set correctly. If I turned on the tv to a hi def station, it would set to 480 and only set to 1080 when i changed to a normal station then back to the hd. then it was fine. again, after the update from the cable company this went away.

Hi.

Your friend is wrong you will get same resolution of 1080i whether you use component or Hdmi.
But you will need a high def input to tv in order to get this resolution EG high def cable box or satellite.
