My beater bar is not turning so the vaccuum is not picking up. The belt is not broken. The motor is working and I can see the cyclone effect in the canister. I have checked for blockages. I have cleaned the hair and string from the beater bar brushes. What should I do?
Re: My beater bar is not turning so the vaccuum is not...
You need to replace the belt, it has probably broken. Your actually supposed to change them yearly. Here is a link to

Turn the machine upside-down and see if you can turn the beater/brush bar with your hand. You should see the brush turning and feel the resistance from the motor. The brush/beater bar may be binding, and what you are smelling is the motor shaft spinning against the rubber belt. You can remove the base plate and check the brush/beater bar with the belt disconnected. If the brush/beater bar is difficult to turn, you need to remove the brush/beater bar and clean the bearings at each end, Remove any threads that are wound around the beater bar ends so that the bearings roll easily and smoothly. Check to see that your machine is not set too low for the surface that you are bacuuming. While you have the belt disconnected, check thi inside surface to see if the motor shaft has been spinning against the belt, you'll see the damage to the inside circumfrence of the belt.
Check for a broken beater brush belt.
Clean the beater brush, clear of all debris and add some WD40 at each end where the rubber holders are. Turn beater brush by hand to work the WD40 into the axle.
Reassemble making sure the belt is on correctly.
This should also help solve the suction problem as well.
The belt(s) need to be replaced periodically. If the belt is worn, stretched or broken it will not pick
up the way it should. You can get DC07 replacement belts here:
When you turn the roller, you should feel some resistance from the belt. Remove the base blate that surrounds the beater bar. Check the belt. Take care in removing the beater bar, so you can get it back in the same way it comes out. Clean the beater bar while you have the bottom open. If you remove the beater bar to replace the belt, take the time to inspect the cavity behind the beater bar where the vacuum picks up. That is where vacuums usually stop up. Reassemble the vacuum. If necessary, slip the belt over the motor shaft and then slide the roller undre the belt. Install the beater bar back in the sockets and replace the base plate.
