My Vizio 42 inch made a loud cracking sound and then the picture went out. I still have sound but the picture won't come back on ?
With all the listed sets, itis most likely the y-drive(sus) board. The only problem is that this board usually fails when the horz.buffer ic's fail, which is usually part of the plasma display. This was a semi-common problem with this set.The best bet is to find a new set, since the parts alone will exceed the cost of a new one.Pioneer or nec seem to be the most reliable that i have seen.
My 42' vizio LCD HDTV made a loud click sound and everything went out no pic no sound
Vizio very well know that this is a problem with their units. I bought my Vizio P50 in 2006 two months later it was out with the same problem everyone is experiencing. They replaced it under warranty and just before my warranty was over this month, guess what, the same problem. Vizio have refused to assist in solving this issue yet they know its something wrong with their plasma screens.
SOURCE: No picture but has sound
Regarding the Plasma TV with dark picture, this is often caused by bad sustain board, replacing the Ysus Zsus kit may solfe the problem.
Regarding instead the Vizio with sound but no picture:
If an LCD TV has sound but no picture do the following:
Use the source button to ensure that source is not set to the wrong input.
Try unplugging power cord for ten minutes, to ensure it is not a setting problem.
Check all the video cables at the back of TV.
Check Light /Color settings.
If problem persist and does not depend on external receiver or settings, then it is likely an internal fault.
If it has sound but no picture then one of the following parts is faulty, and must be tested and replaced:
The
inverter is the high voltage board that provides variable power to the
backlight lamp. This is the most common. When inverter is faulty you
can get no picture, or a very dim picture that can only be seen by
pointing a torch light with a 45 degree angle on the LCD surface from
very near distance.
The inverter must be tested by reading voltages with a multimeter.
The LCD ribbon cable/LCD display and connectors.
This
is quite uncommon, but happens. If the TV had been hit or moved the LCD
cable may have slipped out, or the LCD connector may be damaged.
The LCD controller board.
This
is the board that controls the video signal, it is difficult to test,
as there is need to read determined values on IC pins. To test this
board you need to purchase a service manual and follow the
troubleshooting diagrams on service manual.
Input/Output Signal boards.
This are the boards where you
connect the video and audio cables, if a signal board is defective,
then you may get no picture on particular inputs located on faulty
board.
If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual.

my tv has sound but no picture. Completely black screen. I tried to by past cable box to make sure it was the tv not the cable box. If anyone has a solution please post a comment.
I have a Vizio 42" that has the same problem. Sound but no picture. Out of warranty but this seems like a common problem that maybe vizio will honor. It's worth a shot !!
My Tv Vizio 42" screen went out also There is just Sound Was watching tv & Screen just went out I already tried unpluging it & still wont work !
I have Vizio P42" HDTV that has the same problem. Sound but no picture. Out of warranty and that seems like a common problem.
I tried to disconnect the AC power cord and then re-connect, but it didn't work.
I have the same problem. Sound but the screen is black.
Same problem here. Screen went black while the sound is still on. Picture comes back once in a while for couple seconds and goes off again.
I called Vizio and they said it's most likely main board.
Ditto. I have the Vizio HD50 plasma Anyone have any luck with a fix???
no picture
I had the same problem on my 50" Vizio plasma. I thought I was up the creek but I decided to call Vizio to see where I could get it repaired. My set was out of warranty and customer service said they would contact someone to come out and fix it. I asked for a ballpark figure on the cost of having it repaired, and here's the kicker, they said they would cover it as if it were still under warranty. It was repaired yesterday and all I can say is I am a now more of a fan of Vizio. Their customer service went way beyond anything I've ever encountered.
Our vizio 42 inch went out, no picture but has sound and we did not get the extended warranty and vizio would not help us and we only had the television less then a year and six months of that the television was in storage. Vizio want us to pay 1000.00 for service and repair.
Hello.
One year ago I bough a Vizio Plasma TV in COTSCO-México (VP42)
Last week, after a year of enjoyment, while I saw TV, I heard a loud “click” and the image disappear but the sound still be heard.
Following the troubleshooting, I disconnected the Plasma TV and reconnected after 30 minutes but the problem remains, I mean sound ok but no image.
I looking for Technical Support in COTSCO but people told me that there aren’t authorized Vizio service centers in Mexico.
so rather than just discard it, I open it and discovered that one of the two fuses of the card on the left side (I belive the Y-SUS card) was burned. so I changed it and power on again, but the loud click herad again and as the beggining sound ok but no image.
Anyone can help me with some hint or idea in order to self-repair my tv?
Thanks in advance.

I have a 47" LCD Vizio. I had sound but no picture in TV mode only. DVD worked fine. Unplugged TV power cord, waited 15min and reconnected. Eureka!! it worked. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Have the same problem with the 42" Vizio plasma, made 3 loud cracking noise and the screen went black, still have audio. Tried removing the plug from outlet for a few minutes, that didn't help.
My 60 inch Vizio plasma from Costco made a loud craking/popping sound and both picture and sound went out.
This was just after having it for 9 months-
The ITT tech that came out to fix the TV, dropped the TV and dented my shelf. And never reported it. We called Vizio and they never new of it. They are going to reimburse us for the shelf and give a full refund of the TV. The process is slow-but stick it out and don't take no for a answere-ask to speak with upper management. TV's are supposed to last at least 3-5 yrs
Good luck!!! I will defiantly never buy a Vizio again!
Same problem as everyone else is experiencing. black screen no picture but sound is fine.
same problem (no picture, has sound). Picking it up an inch and letting it drop (lightly) fixed the problem, but I'm taking it back. I've had TWO of the 42" 1080p Vizio LCDs in the last THREE DAYS. They are junk, I'll never buy a Vizio again.
I heard the loud pop sound too. The image isn't completely gone: it's black, but you can definitely make out the picture... sounds okay. Anyone have the Service or Vizio number on hand?
