My dyson has suction but I cannot use the hose when it is on. The hose will stretch easily when it is turned off (like it did when I first bought it) but when it is turned on it is so hard to stretch it out-it is impossible to use. Any suggestions? Everything seems to be working normal.
Hi.
I have repaired Dyson machines for years & have never come accross this.
The only way you will have trouble extending the hose is if there is a blockage at the bend where you hold the wand could be a coin which when switched on flips accross & blocks oppening.
Is it easy to slide wand from flexi hose with machine switched off ?
You will need to remove wand from hose & push broom handle down to the bend & tap coin out.

Chris..
Ok.
Please answer this question all of you having problems with hose restriucting back when you pull the wand out & switch machine on.
1) Remove metal wand completly from the hose & switch machine on, Do not cover the end of flexi hose with your hand fully extend the the hose, Does the hose start to restrict back to machine more that it did when it was switched off ?
2) Now switch machine off, Leave hose fully extended & push metal wand so it clips back on to flexi hose do not push metal wand all the way in to flexi pipe.
Switch machine back on if the flexi hose pulls back violently then you DEFINATELY have something in the bend part of wand handle to prove this leave machine switched on & drop some rolled up paper about the size of the end of your little finger in to wand oppening now switch machine off look in the bin can you see the rolled up ball of paper.
If no then remove wand from hose & look in the wand is it in there ?
If yes then you have A coin or disc of something that is swivelling around to block pipe when you switch on.
Please dont just score this with Thanks For trying do the tests answer my questions remember I do this for nothing I am trying to save you money.
Chris.
YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!! I've been watching youtube videos and have taken the entire machine apart and your comment above about pushing a broom handle through the wand/handle worked!!!! I'm am so happy! I thought for sure I'd be buying a new machine! It works as well as the day I bought it (TEN years ago)!!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!

You're solution was no solution. If a coin or similar object was lodged in the hose, then there would be NO suction. Period. But there is suction, too much suction, that's the problem. So much suction that the hose cannot be extended. I'm so confused.
I followed chris's instructions above even though I thought I had thoroughly checked for blockages. Sure enough no sign of the rolled up paper in the bin. I put a brush handle down the pipe from the silver end and sure enough out popped a 2 pence piece. Thank you Chris...saved me from buying a new hose
I would just like to say that Chris's solution no 2 above wa spot on. Although it was difficult to see there was stuff lodged in the bend of the wand, and after fishing it all out, everything is fine.
Thanks Chris
I have the same problem. The hose constricts and the hose is absolutely useless. There is nothing lodged/blocking the hose and no tears. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the same problem, it works fine, but when you stretch the hose out, the suction pulls it back in and you get very little suction from the hose while vacuuming. Is it possible the hose is tangled and we aren't seeing it?
I have tha same problem. When turned on, the hose will not extend, at all. It's never done this in the 4 years we've had this. And yes we clean it after every use. And Yes, there is suction, and it picks up everything until you try to extend the hose. It's like the suction becomes greater when extended and the hose just collapses, so clearly it's NOT a coin or similar object. I ran a broom handle through the hose, no blockages or tears. I've examined every part of the vacuum, nothing is out of order
I bought a non genuine hose for my DC07 and yes it collapses when pulled out during hoovering the stairs. The on-line company I purchased it from were convinced a coin was lodged in the hose and/or metal wand-I checked this and found nothing. I am in the process of posting it back and buying a GENUINE Dyson hose as I believe the non genuine version is not as strong therefore collapses when a vacuum is rushed through it. This is my theory and I'm sticking to it-the original hose never played up so guess you get what you pay for!!
I have the same problem. Went so far as to buy a new hose. It also collapses and has too much suction to extend it. Nothing stuck in the hose, bends, or filter.
