The monitor takes ages to come on & sometimes when it does come on its very bright..

its an option pyshically on your monitor there has to be some butttons near the power button of the monitor. play around with those and you might figure it out or

he Dell I'm using also has an adaptive brightness, regardless of the fact it does not have a light sensor. It just changes brightness of the screen depending on how much white/black is shown at that moment. Whenever I switch from a very dark to a very bright website I notice and increase/decrease in screen brightness. I'm running Windows 7 by the way.

Try turning down the brightness on the monitor, sometimes this will fix the issue, if not the problem is in the inverter board and needs a professional to assess it further.

this is due to overheating. change the IC by a technician.

after 4 or 5 yrs EHT ( transformer that supplies voltage to CRT TUBE - MONITOR TUBE ) becomes weak - then 1 of the indication is ....picture becomes dull (less brightness & less contrast ) ........so solution is EHT ( also called as flyback transformer ) should be replaced....... {{ few details about EHT---- its size will be around 3inch X 2inch X 2inch ---it will have 2 or 3 knobs to adjust focus , brightness ------ at bottom around 10 pins will be there ------- from EHT 1 thick red colour cable goes to CRT TUBE --------- on EHT its part number will be there }} -------- so if user is a technical person having idea about components ( resistors, transistors, diodes, etc ) , having tools like multimeter ( to check components) , soldering iron, soldering lead, flux, desoldering wig ( for removing components), etc also little experience in servicing field( compulsory) ----------------- then user can remove EHT from main board ---- take to electronic shop ----- buy same type EHT --------- fix to mainboard ( knobs on EHT should be adjusted according to picture --- after switching monitor --- this adjustment is very important ) ----------iam from bangalore (09986222774, [email protected]) ----- here EHT's price will be around Rs 250 ( US $ 6 ) & for my customers (in bangalore) i will take another Rs 500 (US $ 11) as sevice charge......i don't have any idea about EHT ' s price & service charge in your place.........since it is very risky job i suggest to contact monitor service engineer ------- because they are highly experienced & can fix this component very easily..

These have age related problems on the inverter board which lights the 4 bulbs
I repair these regularly through ebay.
Most common cause is a blown fuse on the inverter board, sometimes that is caused by bad capacitors or transistors. Usually it's just from age and heat.
Fuses are marked F1 and F2 and located on each side of the white large plug that feeds the board. These can be checked with continuity meter.

most monitors get darker with age -- for a while you can counter this by turning up the Brightness and Contrast controls, but this only gives you a little extra time (and probably speeds up the decay process anyway).

Lcd monitors do not go overbright due to aging,they may go dim due to backlight aging.Do front panel controls work and if so what happens when you try to bring down brightness?
Some monitors have a "Recall" function which is a factory restore bringing all setting to factory value.

some component might have loosen up on the circuit of your monitor! cleaning inside and resoldering loose components could fix your problem!

sounds like the backlight is failing already. If it still under warranty, take it back and have the manufacturer fix it.
