The Norstar 616 system was made before CLID was readily available. You could however, purchase a Nortel CICS system with CLID card(s). CI trunk cards handle up to 4 lines per card making the capacity of the system 8 lines by 16 stations.The CICS system will work with the existing m7310 sets you have so you wouldn't have to incur the cost of new telephones.

Are Your socket wired correctly? Pins 3 & 4 on the Socket UK Spec...

Have you tried another Telephone in that Socket for the new extension?...

Are the 'Cursors' Flashing on the phone when pluging in?

What type of System is it? Norstar systems default to 2 lines if they loose memory (which isn't supposed to happen). That being said, I recently had had to replace an old Norstar 616 that would not hold memory after a power outage. I took the KSU apart and could not find any internal battery to replace. If you don't have a 7310 or greater phone, then you need to get one. I would imagine you can buy one for under $100.
