belts always run to the largest diameter
so if the shafts are not dead parallel they will run to the point that is the furtherest away
as what you have
possible that the drive motor needs aligning when it is running to a point where the belt runs in the correct position
the pump is in the fuel tank and sometimes you can hit the bottom of the fuel tank while turning it over and the pump will take off and the engine will run you do need to hit it hard and fast for 30sec maybe more while turning it over it worked for me
videopix123, There are many reasons for a vehicle dieing at any given time. However, what you discribe here with the engine spinning fast leads me to think that the timing belt is broken. With the engine spinning fast sounds like there is no compression in the cylinders. When the timing belt breaks, a few valves will be left open and compression cannot build up and this will allow the engine to spin fast. You state that you "checked the timing belt by moving the top of cover and it seems fine and new." Do this again and have someone try to start the vehicle. If the belt does not move then it is broken and needs to be replaced. If this is not the case then, with my apologies, please feel free to resubmit your question. Good luck with this.
@ kazim erguney i have a bell and Howell 235-a I’m trying to get it to run but i think the belts are too loose so nothing is turning but everything sounds like it’s working. Is there any other recommendations you have to fix it before buying new belts?

not to sound funny but are you sure that you have this tread set in the units (mpg/kph) that you require. i have worked in loads of gyms and its a common problem that people think the belt is running to fast because its set in kph and that thinks its in miles eg 9mph = 14.5kph
you can check and change the units in the club setting menu.

your problem is the flat belt that drives the 2 capstans. I asked you to check switches but remembered afterwards there is a different motor for fast forward reverse. When the machine is powered on, the capstan motor runs all the time. I bet the 2 capstans are not turning. You can see this if you slide up (gently) the cassette tinted cover. You need a new belt. If you are handy, you can do it yourself (about 2 hours) but it is tricky as you have to remove the complete cassette mechanism and then partially dismantle it to put on the new belt. If you need help I can probably guide you a bit. I just did it a few months ago. The belt size is 9.6 inches. One part number is FBM9.6 or you can try Yamaha service.
You have a Bad Belt Tensioner and will need a new one and Possibly a new Belt. Have the Alternator Checked also. It could have gone Bad during these Problems. If the Tensioner is Not keeping the Belt very Tight it will not allow the Alt. To charge the Battery and it will drain very fast.
