What Is Bullying
serious, lasting problems.
In order to be considered bullying, the behavior must be aggressive and include:

  • An Imbalance of Power: Kids who bully use their power-such as physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity-to control or harm others. Power imbalances can change over time and in different situations, even if they involve the same people.
  • Repetition: Bullying behaviors happen more than once or have the potential to happen more than once.
Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.

Who do i need to speak with about my son and his school hes being bullied and has been for 2 years and im not sure what i need to do now !

If your son's school takes the problem of bullying seriously they will be concerned about it both on and off school premises and will have a tried and tested process in place to tackle it which will be approved by the school governors, the local education authority, the local police and the parent teacher association.

Bullying is often a case of particularly bad manners by kids who don't know being well mannered goes further than please or thank you at the dinner table. Other kids bully because of peer pressure or prestige and others because they themselves are bullied or have a bully as a role model. Sometimes a bully is just a nasty kid with a nasty nature.

If you are involved with the PTA, initial advice may be found there. Schools have a habit of down-playing the problem fearing bad publicity and if that is the case and the head teacher or principal is a wannabe politician who likes to sit on his hands, if you talk to him your complaint is likely to be misplaced. Certainly the Principal should be informed but being too discreet would probably not be advisable. Your son's teacher should be informed and a few selected parents and members of the PTA in addition.

If your son is suffering physical bullying, it is a criminal assault and while not wanting to give a young bully a criminal record, if it takes place outside of school your local police officer might arrange to witness an incident and then read the riot act.
If your son is suffering psychological bullying it is easily hidden and easily denied and difficult to prove without independent witnesses and details of incidents. In this case you might need to become spy and detective.

Good luck!
