Lens won't extend even though new batteries installed.

Try the following steps when the lens is stuck and will not open, retract, or extend.

1. Turn the power off, eject the battery pack, and reinsert it into the camera.
2. Turn the power back on and check if the drive part of the lens moves properly.
3. If the lens still will not open, retract or extend, then reset the camera.

This tip will explain a few methods on how to try and fix your lens if it is stuck or you get a lens error on your screen.

2. If your camera is out of warranty try these methods.

• Remove the batteries for 10min. Replace the batteries and see if the problem persists.
• Try compressed air. This method can be useful if there are any sand or any other object stuck in the lens motors. Use compressed air with a fine tip. Direct the air between the camera body and lens and move in a circular motion around the lens to complete a full rotation.
• You can also try to tap the padded USB cover firmly on a flat surface like a table. This is sometimes a surprisingly effective method.
• The last method is to try and force the lens. Turn of your camera and place it on its back on a flat surface. Look at the spacing between the lens and the body and see if the gap is consistent all the way around the lens. If the gap is not even it is likely that the camera fell while the lens was extended. Now VERY GENTLY push down on the lens were the gap is the biggest until you her a "click". This will indicate that the lens is back in place. Try powering back on.
• If the lens does not extend or it extend and retracts turn of the camera. Hold the camera in your one hand and with the other hand turn the one part of the lens in a circular motion. Rotate both sections of the lens until you hear a "click". This will indicate that the lens popped back in place. Power the camera back on.
• The last method you can use is to turn the lens while powering on the camera until you hear a "click". Power the camera of and back on to see if it works.

If any of the methods listed above failed to work for your lens problem it would be wise to take it on to a professional to get your camera repaired.

The problem you are having is that the camera lens will not extend

How to fix this is simple:

I'm not actually sure what you mean here, it is helpful on fixya.com to provide an accurate description of the problem you are having, this way the experts, such as myself, can help you quickly and easily. Providing just a title is not going to give you the answer you need.

If your lens will not extend, be sure you have batteries/charger in the camera.

Also be sure that there is not a button that allows you to extend it

It would also be helpful to provide what kind of camera you have

Please fix these issues with your post and I will help you solve your problem, this entire process should take anywhere between 10-12 weeks to resolve

Please read carefully below procedure how to remove "Barrier Block" (what you call Lens Cover)..
Turn camera power ON so Lens will extend.
Take out battery so lens will remain extended.
First silver ring needs to be removed with help of tweezers as shown in below image..

Now you will see 2 screws at front of lens, unscrew to remove barrier block (lens cover) as shown in below image..



You need to have new barrier block with following part number..

A-1205-001-A BARRIER BLOCK ASSY

Subject part is available in Part Store

Install new barrier block as shown following image..



Insert battery and power up camera to check does barrier block works fine.

I fixed this problem on my Fuji FinePix A303 (though it took some hard work).

The problem:
Camera Lens Cover stuck open or stuck closed.
Power on, and get !LENS COVER error.
Lens fails to extend.

The solution:
Short answer: The motor driving the lens cover is weak and eventually breaks down. I manually open the cover now. This took a manual modification to the camera (and some work).

1. Take the camera apart. See here for details, and be careful around the flash, as you'll get a nasty shock otherwise! http://www.mathematik.uni-marburg.de/~haim/focuserr.htm
2. Once you can see this, you're just about there:

3. Take off the battery cover (in the picture above).
4. Wrap a wire around the sliding pin for the lens cover, and drill 2 small holes through the black structure underneath the battery case, and then to the outside. The wire goes from the pin to the outside via the two holes. You should be able to manually open and close the camera cover COMPLETELY now with the wire.
5. Reassemble the camera (actually, you can test that it's working when it's all apart, if you're careful).
6. To operate the camera now, close the shutter first while off. Power on the camera, and very soon after open the shutter all the way by pulling on the wire (from step 4). This basically mimics the action of the little lens cover motor. If you timed it right (you have about a second margin), the lens should extend and everything functions perfectly.

It would have been nice to have been able to simply buy a new motor, but that would probably be a pain and cost some money.

Same problem; however, after taking a hard look at the camera I noticed that the lens was tweaked; that is, is was not evenly extended so I pulled (by hand) on the inner, extended lens piece and viola; I turned it on, the lens retracted and extended upon application of power as usual.

My guess is the 3 beeps is much like a BIOS error with a PC...when there is a hardware problem they beep on startup...in this case, the camera was letting me know the lens was stuck.

I've decided to send the camera in for possible repair.

This error... lens error.. can be the result of many abuses. If the lens is held back as it is extending, it can damage the tiny parts. If the lens is bumped while it is extended, it may damage the internal parts beyond repair. Sometimes the lens get off track as a result of a blow while extended.
If the camera is dropped, the lens mechanism can be damaged from the impact, even though it is not extended.
If you treat a digital camera with a lot of care, and put in a padded camera bag, you may extend the life of the camera.
