Hp laptop has blinking red square above touch pad, comp. won't allow for reboot or restoring to factory conditions

If you do an illegal shut down which is power off by holding down the power switch for 8 seconds. The HP computer will then boot with the scandisk program, which will restore your hdd to perfection. Windows XP or later now use 'system restore' to rearrange registry from a previous calender date that the computer used to work perfectly.

How do i reset my hp pavilion dv8000 to factory

Hi,
If your data backed up, you can restore the machine to factory settings by
using their utility which I believe installed and you need to hi a key
combination or a Key to start the process of resetting it to factory
settings!

By press F11 at startup you will be able to start the restore option, be
warned you will lose all programs/applications installed extra on this
machine.

Can I swap the hard drive in my hp dv8000 into my hp dv 4305?

Both laptops? It depends if they are both SATA or both IDE drives. MY dv8000 has SATA hard drives. So you should be able to...as long as the connections are the same.

I havnt used my dv8000 in over a year because i purchased another laptop, however im trying to sell it but i cannot remember the power on password, is there anyway to override or bypass it?

Start the laptop holding down the f11 key till you hear a beep.

Then the system restore dialogue box comes up which allows you reset the system to the factory setting as if it was brand new.

Good luck.

DVD drive not seen in Explorer on HP DV8000

If you right click My Computer /Manage/
1. Look at Device Manager. Do you see any "!" marks by anything.....maybe your drive.
2. Look in Disk Management. Do you see the drive there? Have you added any USB or other drives to your PC recently? If so, it could have taken the place of your drive's letter. You may need to change the drive letter.

Unable to reinstall DVD backups after HP SYSTEM RECOVERY failed

Code "purple" means you and your computer are done. It is an unrecoverable error that means you need a new system. However, I have found a couple of postings that claim to know a fix. I can not verify these methods, I do not own a HP or other type of prefab PC (custom is the only way to go). Anyway, here are the links, good luck.

SYSTEM RESTORE

You need restore disks or an opperating system to restore any computer to factory condition. Simply put the disk 1 in your dvd/cd drive and go from there. It usually takes 45-60 minutes to do this.

IF you don't have restore disks you can make them on your system (if its running) or you can call the manufacturer and they will send you them for a small fee.
