1. press the reset button on the back of the router for 20sec..while pressing the reset button, unplug the power plug and after 2secs while pressing the reset button plug it back in and press for 30secs after that unplug the router for 15secs then plug it back in..once all the lights are solid and ok
2. connect the ethernet cable to port1 of the router and the other end to the lan port of your computer..
3. pull up ur browser then type at the url:192.168.1.1.or 192.168.0.1 or u can check the routers default gateway by right clicking the network icon on the lower right of your task bar and click on status and it will show the ip address of the computer, subnetmask and default gateway, the default gateway is the routers ip address, once u type in to the url, it will ask u the username and password, by default the username is admin and the password is 1234 or just leave it blank
4. it will show the setup page of the router. u can set the router on the specific internet setup that u have.
a. if ur isp is a cable company, normaly u need to do a mac clone on the router setup page by cloning the computer that is reg to the cable company, how to determine it. ex. the computer that is reg to the cable company is a desktop or laptop, if this computer is connected to the modem directly and u can access internet.
b. once u determined it u need to connect this computer directly to the router and do a mac clone and set ur internet settings to auto-dhcp..then save the settings and after that, unplug to the power of the modem and router, plug in 1st the power of the modem then once all lights lit, plug in the router, then once all lights lit, try to pull up a browser that ur computer is connected directly to the router.. ur cable connection shud be, cable from the modem will go to the WAN port of the router and connect ethernet cable on port1 going to the lan port of the computer..once u can access the internet, u can now access again the setup page of the router by typing at the url:192.168.1.1 and u can setup the wireless settings, u need to create a ssid or wireless name and a security..
5. If ur isp is a dsl normaly they give u a username and password to connect to the internet, ur settings on the router should be PPPoe
6. If ur isp gives u a static ip address settings, u need to set the router to isp setup.
a. how to check the isp of the isp given to u..
1. click on start
2. run
3. type cmd
4. it will show a dos prompt
5. from the dos prompt type ipconfig/all
6. it will list the ip address, subnet, default gateway, dns server
this settings should be type in to the settings on the router for static ip addressing..

Unable to connect to internet through Linksys WRT160N router. Can unplug it and internet is fine. Tried power cycling the modem and router. Linksys comes up with all lights flashing and will not...

If I understand your problem correctly, you are able to connect to the Internet when you hook the computer directly to the modem, but not when the router is connected to the modem.
If this is the case, then you need to do a power drain on the modem. Power cycling the modem is not enough to clear the NVRAM of the MAC address of your computer. You have to unplug the power cord of the modem for 15 to 20 minutes in order for the NVRAM to reset and allow the modem to recognize the MAC address of the router.
After the modem has been unplugged for 15 to 20 minutes, disconnect the power cable from the router and then connect router to the modem using the Ethernet cable.
Next with the router power cord still disconnected, plug in the power cord of the modem and allow the modem to sync to the network.
Once the modem is finished with its start-up, plug-in the power cord of the router and let it sync to the network.
After the modem has completed its start-up, it should now be connected to the internet.
Good Luck

Cannot connect thru linksys router to internet. I can connect with direct cable but when connected to linksys does not connect.

Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

I have a Linksys wired router, which I have had for years and everything worked fine until a couple of days ago when I was no longer able to connect to the internet. I disconnected the router and connected...

Hello,

Do this with your network setup. Power down your DSL/Cable modem first by unplugging the power. Power down the router next by unplugging the power. Power off your computer also. Now , power up the dsl/cable modem and let it resync with the ISP ...all lights green and showing activity. Next power up the Linksys router and then do a factor restore reset by pushing in the reset and holding it for a count of 5 (the front lights will go red then flash) let go of the reset as your linksys router is all set to default setttings from the factory. Now power up your computer and try the internet after it boots up. Should hook to the internet with no problems now. Now access your router menu by typing http://192.168.1.1 and hit enter. The router log in menu should now display. just click on the password tab and enter admin the default password and then change your password in the router to something hard to remember and WRITE IT DOWN! There is also great help from linksys web site on networking your home. Good luck,

Unable to connect to the internet using a linksys wireless adapter. Connects to the router but can't find the internet.

Isolate the issue by directly connecting the PC to the router via ethernet cable (if possible).

If you were able to get online while hardwired connected to the router, then check the IP address of the wireless network connection, check the wireless security if the network key matches.

If you cannot get online while hardwired to the router, then directly connect the computer to the modem.

If you were able to get online while directly connected to the modem, then the problem is the internet settings on the router. Check the WAN configuration, such as DHCP or PPPoE.

If you cannot get online when directly connected to the modem, then you will need to contact your Internet Service Provider.

Internet connection problems using the BEFW11S4

If you are having problems connecting to the Internet, follow the following steps: 1. Internet service: Check with your Internet Service Provider to make sure that service is active. You usually can determine a good link to the service if you can bypass the BEFW11S4, plug directly into the ISP modem unit, and get a good connection. This will narrow the issue down to either the service, or the router. 2. Network cables: Verify that the network cables that connect the network together are plugged into the current ports as they should (modem into the WAN/Internet port, computers into 1, 2, 3, or 4). Also try to change some or all of the network cables that attach to devices coming from the BEFW11S4. You may have bad cables. 3. Router configuration: Your router may not be configured to use your Internet service properly. While plugged into your provider?s modem and able to get online, run the bundled Router Setup Wizard CD-ROM program that came with your router. This will configure the router automatically for you. Note: this program must be executed on the main computer when plugged directly into the providers modem unit and able to get on the Internet 4. Manual configuration: If the Setup Wizard CD-ROM from Step 2 fails to configure your router, you may need a manual configuration. While plugged into the provider modem unit and able to get online, visit http://kb.linksys.com, and search for the name of your Internet service provider for detailed instructions on manual configurations. 5. Router firmware: Upgrade your router to the latest firmware version. Please go to http://www.linksys.com/download to download the latest version of firmware for your product. After the upgrade, be sure to reset the router, by holding in the router?s reset button for 30 seconds and reconfiguring it for use with your service (Step 3 or Step 4). 6. Malfunctioning equipment: You may have a faulty network adapter, or a bad router. Please contact Linksys Technical Support for further assistance.
