Hello Bernard, your Pioneer AX-311, is a two-channel, stereo amplifier, you can connect your Samsung TV, if it has audio output L and R, to an input of the Pioneer, say for the AUX input, what will get, is to listen to the sound of the TV in your Pioneer, in stereo, two channels, you can not have surround sound, because your Pioneer does not have that benefit
At the most, you can hear the sound of Samsung on the TV and the amplifier simultaneously, and you will hear a sound delay between the Pioneer and the Samsung
I hope my answer was useful

Need to make sure you have the red, white, and yellow rca connection cables ran from the samsung dvd player to the red, white, yellow input on the back of the dvd recorder. Once you do that make sure you put your dvd recorder on line 1 input. If you look closely on the back of your recorder it should say line 1 input. If your recorder isn't on that input you can put the recorder on line 1 input by using dvd recorder remote and pushing the input button. Make sure you don't push the tv input button the dvd recorder remote there should be a seperate input button or a way to toggle the inputs on the recorder. Once you verify all that turn on your tv and go to the input on your tv that you watch the dvd recorder on and you should see what your recording on the tv.

SOURCE: Hooking up surround sound
to get the digital you have to have the digital optical line or the coax rca jack digital audio connection from device to stereo reciever to get the dolby digital surround sound to work , otherwise you can only get a virtual surround sound from the reciever( no dolby digital )

After trying several ways, we decided the best picture was to run the blue ray (out) directly to the TV (in) with an HDMI and another HDMI from the sat. box(out) to TV(in), then optical audio from TV (out) to receiver (in). This way you don't have to change channels on the reciever when switching from TV to DVD. Remember that HDMI is one cable that supports audio and video. If you are using all Samsung products and want to use one remote, using the Anynet feature, I think it has to be connected with an HDMI. I'm going to try connecting an HDMI too from the reciever to the TV to see if this feature will work. It does with the Blue Ray.

Make sure that the sound field/programme you have selected is dolby digital not stereo.(On the amp)
You also need to check on the display that is says DIGITAL not ANOLOUGE, as only a digital input, Optical fibre cable, HDMI, COAX will be a digital signal.
If you are using red and white rca connectors, it is not going to work, as this is an Anolouge signal.
