The toner is the black powder which the printer uses to turn type and pictures into a printed piece. The drum is the device that actually fuses the image to the paper. Toner cartridges and drums have a service life. Toner cartridges will have say a 3000 sheet capacity. When it is empty you replace it. The drum will have a 10-20,000 sheet capacity. Typically the drum is three to four times more expensive to replace. Many companies will give you a credit for turning them in vs ending up in a landfill.
Good luck.

Hi, Toner contains the black powder (toner) that the image is printed WITH
The drum is the unit that transfers this from the toner cart to the paper.
It's an light sensitive drum (OPC) that uses high voltage charges to move toner about, and they wear out.

Printer need to have both a good DRUM and a toner supply to work

Thanks! mannu_rakesh

Why can't I use a toner and drum set from an OKI c5250 in an OKI c5200

While the drum units may appear the same, chances are Okidata puts a different chip on it that makes in incompatible. The C5200 will use drums from a C5150. The C5250 appears to use different supplies.

K image drum

The drum and toner cartridge are two separate items. You need to replace the drum.

I have attempted to install 3 different black toner cartridges in my OKI c3400. I keep getting an error: "Toner cartridge lock lever is improper, drum missing, or toner sensor error. OFFLINE." I first...

The plastic shutter in the ID is fully or partially covering the toner sensor window.

Move the cover upward to allow for the sensor to become fully exposed prior to reinstalling the drum.

I need to clean out my Laser printer - OKI OL 400EX

I replenished the empty toner cartridge using the contents of a reduced price (from PCWorld) cx-OKI400l-is cartridge. For this you need a steady hand and a very small, very shiny stainless steel funnel. These are available from a good kitchenware shop. There is a removable cap to the cartridges. I understand one should only use the Toner from a cartridge by the same manufacturer as the printer. My old OKI OL400ex is now working again. I still don't have the answer to: Where does the excess Toner go? Does it fill up the printer drum? Michael UK

Message on window: check toner cartridge 542: C toner sensor error

try a different toner first .... doesn't have to be a full one ... just a different toner box. had the same on a machine and it was only a bad toner cartridge. so the easiest thing to do is swap drum units with toner installed ...
if it turns out to be the cartridge you can have a look at the right side ... there is a hole in it and a white plunger moving there and gives the machine the current toner amount in the cart.

How to reset black drum counter OKI C3300 ?

Buy a pack of 10 x .062A (1/16A) pico fuse RS part No 738-3062. Switch off printer. Remove the drum and toner together from the drum slot to be reset. Carefully crimp the legs of the fuse around the contact wires on the right side of the drum slot. Make sure fuse legs are making a good connection to the wires and aren't touching the frame. switch on printer and allow it to detect the absence of the drum. Switch off printer and carefully remove the now blown fuse. Re-install the toner and drum assemnbly. Drum life is now reset. see pic:

Toner sensor problems

On the base of machine after removing drums and transport, there are 4 sets of 3 pins that connect to left hand bottom of each drum, these can get toner on them and not make proper contact, each set of 3 pins just pop out with the help of a flat blade, out of base to be cleaned. in yout case just switch the set under the cyan with another lot from different colour.

I am taking it that you are using genuinne non imported oki drum and toner. If this doesnt fix your problem then you must have fauly drum/toner
