There is a spark ignition plug near the burner. It could be dirty or the lead has come off. If you can hear the sound of the spark, that would mean that power is getting to the plug. If the problem continues you might consider buying a hand held gas igniter. Far cheaper than a service call.

i am unable to use my oven on my tappan gas range. every other part of the range works wonderfully. the oven just will not light

do you hear any clicking when you try to start the oven portion of the range? if not lets try this, open the lower drawer so you can see the burner bar and mechanism for lighting the bake bar. as your watching the mechanism turn on the oven (nothing should happen as per your issue) while oven is on try lighting one of the top burners, any one will do wanna check if that lites the spark and in turn lites the oven pilot.if that does infact work you have a bad spark switch for the oven control

IF THIS IS A NEW STOVE THERE IS A VALVE IF YOU PULL OUT THE LOWER DRAWER AND LOOK WITH A FLASH LIGHT YOU WILL SEE A VALVE AT THE REAR OF THE STOVEAT THE LOWER LEFT OF THE VALVE THERE IS A TINY LITTLE HANDLE WHICH OPENS THE GAS TO THE OVEN FLIP THE LITTLE LEVER SO IT IS IN THE OPEN POSSITION, THERE ARE NO MARKS SAYING OPEN OR CLOSED AND THE LEVER IS VERY HARD TO SEE
