SOURCE: Reset Timer Lamp Sony VPL-HS60 projector
To reset the lamp timer:
1) With the projector plugged in and turned off, press the 'ON/STANDBY' button to put the projector in 'STANDBY' mode. NOTE: You have to press the button on the projector itself, you cannot use the remote for this step (this is not clear in manual).
2) Now, using the remote, press the following keys in order: RESET, <--, -->, ENTER.
3) Timer should now read '0'.
SOURCE: Sony CS5 Wont turn on
the cover switch is probably not fully made.
Ensure that the cover tangs are pushing the pin
on the miniswitches.
Try putting slight pressure on the fan or lamp cover to see if the lamp/cover light
stops flashing.
you will need to do a restart on the PJ to check this out

Look closely by the cover there is a small sensor there, could be a pice of dirt and door not completely closing get a cleanpaint brush or little brush and clean area..Good Luck

Does the status light stay on red? If it does then the lamp timer has exspired and will not let the projector turn back on until it is reset, at which time you should replace the lamp. To reset the timer you need the remote control, with the unit plugged in in standby mode hold down the power off button for 30 to 45 seconds until the status light goes off.
SOURCE: Sony VPL-EX3 "Lamp cover problem", it wont switch
There is a small switch that detects when the lamp cover is securely tightened down, so that it protects the user from the high voltages, hot surfaces, excessive bright light in the eyes, and damage to the face if the lamp implodes due to old age and overuse.
so check if the switch operates when a toothpick is pushed up and down in the cavity. This model suffers this problem when the cover is slightly warped with old age.
so put a strip of folded paper between the cover plastic protusion that actuates the switch and the switch and secure the cover and see if this is all that is needed to activate the switch properly.
if it now works, you can try putting a small drop of silastic on the cover protusion and wait till it sets over several hours in order to lengthen it slightly so that it reaches the switch properly
