SOURCE: makita table saw switch wiring

After much trial and error, a little smoke, and wrecking one replacement switch, I solved a similar problem with my Craftsman Cmpd Mitre saw. Different saw, but likely the same principles are involved.
If the switch is a double pole single throw switch, with one side normally open (N0) and the other normally closed (NC), and the saw has a separate wire for the brake, this will probably work.

One side of the switch should have contacts that are normally open (NO) and only connect when the switch is ON. The Hot (Black) wire from the plug connects to the wire on the machine side (red or maybe black) through this NO side. So, connect these two wires via this NO side and the saw will run when the switch is ON but will have no brake; so far so good.
There should be another wire (Not the neutral white) which is the brake wire. This gets connected to one of the connection sites of the Normally Closed (NC) side of the switch. From the other connection site of this NC side run a short "jumper" wire (of the same guage as the other wires) to the Machine Side of the NO side of the switch (same place as that Red or Black? wire above) .
What seems to happen is this:
There's no power to the machine or the brake when the switch is OFF. Turn it ON and power goes from Hot through the NO (now closed) side and the saw runs. The brake doesn't run when the saw runs because the NC switch is now open. Turn the switch OFF and the NC switch is in fact closed and power is transfered to the brake via the jumper wire from the still spinning armature which now acts as a generator (alternator?). Once the brake has done its job and the armature stops spinning there's no power anywhere until you turn the switch ON again.
Or at least that's the theory, and in my case it works; no more smoke.

SOURCE: I have a 10 inch ryobi miter saw, ts251u, the

Bad news, the swich you need is part number 350001 and it is no longer available. Might I suggest that if you have a local repair center take the switch and see if they can match it up with another mfr. switch. Some of the Milwaukee mitre have switches like you describe. Sorry I couldn't give you the answer you needed.

I have a Makita LS1013 Dual Slide Compound 10-inch Miter Saw. It was working one minute and next no power!

How did you measure the power at the switch Live to N ? that would rule out a break in the cable all that is left is Armature ,Stator coil and wiring to both.

My Makita circular saw won't turn off. What can be causing this?

You could check the switch prior to buying and fitting a replacement with a simple circuit tester. (Statically with the power off). Unless you have shorted wiring around the switch, which is highly unlikely, I would say that a new switch will do the trick. Cheers Bob

I cannot find a replacement part for my Makita mod. JR3000 recipricating saw. I need a handle.

Call Makita at 1-800-462-5482 they will sell direct. Sawzall is a Milwaukee trade name so when you call say reciprocating saw. You'll also need the serial number or date code because Makita has several revisions to that tool.

I have a makita 7.25inch hypoid saw and cant get the field out of the housing. is there a trick?

Hi,

I hope I can help you with this.

When I have disassembled power tools in my woodworking shop, I have found that all seals, baffles, etc. have to be removed before you can get the windings out. If it was overheated, it sometimes is difficult also. Be sure nothing inside the housing is holding it in first.

Hope this helps,

My 10 inch mikita slide saw just quit working. I tested the trigger switch and it seems to be fine but the saw motor won't run. Does anyone have any ideas?

Try another tool in the same power outlet. It may have popped a breaker. Make sure the blade turns freely. Does the motor have brushes that should be looked at? Hope this helps!
