How to gear spindle from housing
The unit is retained by two or three screws surrounding a retaining ring on the saw blade side, and I believe there are some screws holding the gear housing on the motor side that need to be removed as well. I just replaced the bearing on mine a week ago, and even though the situation is obvious once you figure it out I was not smart enough to do so, and wasted an hour trying to figure out how to remove that retaining ring over the bearing. Good luck
No power
Check fuse in plug if fitted, possibly cores in cable have broken, this is most likely to happen at plug and where cable enters body of saw.
You will probably have to open the handle of the saw and do a continuity test with a continuity meter or multimeter from the pins of the plug to where the cores of the cable enter the trigger switch. If this checks out ok, then check brushes haven't worn, check for any overheating on armature.
Need to know where to
if you give me your general area I will try and find a local dealer for you, you can also look in the yellow pages under tool repair for an authorized dealer, but it is faster online to find one. Or if you want you can go to Makitausa.com and they have a locator. Let me know if you need more help before voting please and thank you.
I have a makita 2703

I have a Makita circular saw that when you try to start it it barely turns and flips the breaker or tries to all the lights dim!!
Is there a start compacitor for that saw
All portable power tools including saws and most tradesman type saw benches use the light and powerful series wound brush-type motor that doesn't use a start capacitor.
The single phase induction motor that does use a start capacitor is far too bulky and heavy for portable tools but is found in many of the static workshop tools.
The powerful brush type motor is electrically very noisy and is almost permanently at the edge of self destructing. Good suppression to prevent radio and tv interference is necessary and this also helps protect the motor but a mains transient or power surge while in use can cause an internal surge destroying the insulation of the windings rendering the motor useless in a millisecond.
This could be what happened to your saw though it could equally be an internal short circuit in the power cord or inside the saw and these things must be checked before either writing off the tool or sending it for repair.
