The batteries I put in my camera are discharged very quickly, usually after only a few shots, even when the camera is off. Is there a short circuit, or something like this, that I have to investigate?

Make sure you use photo grade batteries which have more mAh capacity than standard cells.
Most photographic specialist outlets should have these.

SOURCE: camera batteries drain quickly

Open the battery door and check the contact between the camera and the batteries. Most often then not there is just a bad contact and it's ruinning your baterry life.
Make sure that the contact are well placed and that there is no rust or dirt build up around there.

SOURCE: going through batteries abnormally quickly

Hi. I had the same problem with my Canon S1 IS. In my case the problem was caused by flash capacitor. To check if it is the case just follow the following procedure. 1. Turn on the camera. 2. Be sure that low battery warning is flashing on LCD. 3. Turn off the flash by pressing flash button (be sure that flash is OFF but not in AUTO regime). 4. Turn off the camera. 5. Open and close the battery door. 6. Turn on the camera. 7. Take several pictures.
If after these operations the low battery warning does not show up it means that flash capacitor causes the problem and it should be replaced. Or you still can make pictures with your camera without using a flash.

SOURCE: Batteries fail in very short time

I had the same problem but I fixed it by buying 2 rechargable CRV3 batteries and the charger. At the time such batteries were not common, so although I got a brand that I never heard of (CTA) and they have been great, They last a long time and power is no longer an issue.

SOURCE: SONY DSC CYBER SHOT

Try clean contacts of camera for battery and contacts of the battery also, specially the middle one - it is for communication between camera and circuit inside the battery. If the problem persists, try use another battery in your camera, or your battery in other compatible product - you determine this way if the problem is inside the battery (I hope, it is cheaper) or inside the camera.

SOURCE: quick Battery Discharge on LG KU990 Camera/Phone

My problem turned out to be self inflicted as I am a new user of this phone and found out it was purely "Finger Trouble" my phone had closed down and I could not bring it back to life and found that by connecting the battery charger whilst charging I was then able to operate the phone through the charger and from thence on after disconnecting the charger the phone returned to full use. Sorry to have bothered you but grateful of your offer of assistance, I shall know where to go if something more serious should arise. I am a "Silver Computer User" of 80 tender years trying to keep up with the 21st century so that's my excuse for getting in a mess with my first Mobile Phone/Camera. Regards & Thanks Again, Dennis Sparrow

Can the camera sp-800UZ take rapid shots pics with flash going off every pic taken

In short, no. As with all flashes, the capacitor takes a while to recharge (via power from the low voltage battery which is amplified to many thousands of volts in the capacitor) between each shot. How long exactly depends upon how far it's discharged each time, so for close-up objects which fill the frame and need little flash, the discharge will be relatively low and you may get a few shots off in a row, and for distant objects using a more powerful flash discharge it may totally discharge with each shot.

The bigger and more powerful the flash unit, the better it will perform in that respect which is why professional external flashguns are big, bulky and cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. A built-in flash such as on your camera is a compromise solution and is not intended for heavy use. More advanced cameras may have their own built in pop up flashes to take close up snapshots, but for anything else have connectors to enable the use of more powerful external units.

Even with fresh batteries installed, I only get a few shots before the "battery empty" icon appears. Then, if I remove and then re-insert the same batteries, the initial result is a green...

Hi, well this is a pretty common problem, with this and many other cameras of a similar sort, what happens is that inside there is a power conditioner circuit, components, usually a "pass" transistor in this circuit partially fault, and increase the current draw from the battery dramatically, and this causes it to go "Flat" very quickly.
There is little that can be done DIY, what has to be done is to take the camera to an Olympus service center, and ask for a "Quote" for the repair. Then you can make an informed decision as to what to do, repair or replace.

With a new set of batteries in camera the red battery low symbol

Try cleaning the contact points in the battery compartment. If one or more of the contact points are soiled, the camera will react like that. If the problem is due to a short circuit, the batteries will get very hot, if they are discharged after a few seconds.

Camera starts to boot but suddenly shuts off.

Assuming the battery is fresh out of the charger: a "well used" battery that can no longer accept a full charge (at the end of its useful life) can have the results you describe (it's not unlike like a flashlight with dead batteries - when the light goes out, turn off the flashlight - wait a few minutes and turn it on again - the light shines [though not very brightly] and quickly goes out again). After many charge / discharge cycles, the battery no longer has the ability to hold a charge. This is a gradual process that happens over the life of the battery. An indication of this is that you'll notice that you can take many fewer shots now when compared to when the battery was new.

There is a possibility that a new, fully charged battery will allow the camera to work again. However, if the existing battery is not very old or or has relatively few charge / discharge cycles, it is probably an issue with the camera. A local camera store may be able to help you determine if it is a battery or camera issue - otherwise, a quick google search reveals that a new battery for this camera is under $15.

I hope this helps - and good luck!

First, I am a 1st class amateur, so jargon is ?Greek? to me. However, I am studying the manual dilligently. My question concerns the batteries. I am using Panasonic Heavy Duty AA?s. I am always very...

It's essential that you state the exact make and model of your camera.

But in general many are incompatible with regular AA batteries (even heavy duty ones)and instead require that you use NiMh or even Li-ion rechargeablesinstead. The voltage, internal resistance and discharge characteristicsof these are significantly different to regular disposable AA batteriesand so the camera will report "battery empty" prematurely.

Check your manual again and if I've answered your query please return the favour by rating my answer. If not then please add a comment to my posting adding the required info for a definitive answer.

(Sorry for the repeat, FixYa ignored my instruction to post the above as an answer rather than a clarification request).

Pentax MZ-60 very ******* batteries

steve_macint,

the camera has a short circuit. if the camera got wet or was in very high humidity the flex circuit is shorting . take or send your MZ60 to a camera repair shop for an estimate. if the camera has liquid damage they most likely will not repair it.
however if it's just a component part it's fixable.
the battery drain will worsen as the short increases.

Battery exhausted warning and eats new duracell without even starting!!

Actually I have this camera and one that didn't stay on without fresh batteries every few minutes was given to me to tinker with. It is a software problem and if you are patient and follow the directions exactly...a simple firmware upgrade should resolve this issue for you.
Go to: http://www.general-imaging.com/us/firmware.html
Locate the blue box on the left that says QUICK LINKS and then click on FIRMWARE UPGRADES and locate your camera model. I hope this is helpful.

Trouble with camera holding charge

Whell we must agree it is real and very possible. There are some basic phisics laws wich dictates the battery drain rate for a given charge and power requirements. A battery will drain faster if the impedance (circuit electric resistance) of the device you power on, is smaller. A zero ohm impedance is equivalent to a short circuit. Even small impedances such as few ohms to 100-200 ohms drain the battery faster then highter ones, at the same level of power consumtion. My gues in case of your camera, is that there is a faulty inductance on the mainboard of the camera, most probably short circuited and that it is reducing the overall impedance of the whole device. This isn't a hard to diagnosticate problem, but a fix can only be found in a service center. They have the proper tools to find such problems. This shouldn't be a pretty much expensive repair but ask them to estimate the cost of the repair and explain you what their doing before actually doing it. In that way you will be shure what you're facing off and if it's worth it. Good luck and fell free to post another question for more info.
