DNS configuration is what you do to setup the name server for either a website or for your computer. Domain name servers find the IP (Internet Protocol). Everything that connects to the internt has an IP address. IP addresses are for location the machine. They are of the form xyz.xyz.xyz.xyz where xyz is a number between 0 and 255. A domain name would be something like fixya.com, which is easier for people to remember than the numbers. A Domain Name server translates the name to the numbers. Your ISP has one to do the the translation for you. For a web server (computer that hosts a website like fixya.com, the webhost has a Domain Name Server that allows the computer that runs the webserver to be found. Configuration in that case would be to allow the website to find other sites, and to be found by other sites. For your computer, it would be like this, if you are running windows xp: Change DNS Settings in Windows XP

Dns error codes

If you are using a router DNS problems are frequent. To find you DNS setting use you PC to locate it by directly plugging in to your cable modem. Go to Network connections and click on the LAN connection then click on properties or details. It will give you a list of setting. Find the one that says dns 4. That is you ISP's DNS (modems DNS). Take this code and plug back in your router. You can communicate with your router by typing http//192.168.1.1 or http//192.168.2.1. When your router page comes up click on the DNS and uncheck the box that say automatically get DNS. Input the DNS setting number that you got from your cable modem. Make sure you let it take the time to save. This should resolve your DNS error is you are routing the signal. Peace out.

Make additional DNS

Yes, all Windows Servers have the option to install DNS.

Set up a second Windows server and configure it to be a secondary server for your DNS domains on you current server.

Add the second DNS server's IP address to the secondary DNS field to your DHCP scope options and to all computers with static IP configuration so they will use it when your primary DNS is unavailable.

Don't underestimate Window's built-in Help and Support. It will help you install DNS and configure it.

Good luck.

RECOVER FIRST DNS

Is there a running Domain Controller present? If so DNS info is often stored in Active Directory (A.D. Inegrated DNS Zone).  If this is the case you can just connect a server to the network, join the domian (verify DNS settings in TCI/IP config is pointing to Domain Controller) and then installm DNS from Add/Remove windows components.  Zone data should replicate from AD to new DNS server, to verify open DNS console and look for resource records relevent to the domain.

DNS

DNS is the primary name resolution service for Windows Server 2003. Active Directory depends on DNS for domain controller location, and DNS influences Active Directory domain naming. Thus, to fully understand Active Directory, it helps to understand how DNS acts as an integral component in the design of Active Directory.

DNS provides Active Directory with both a name resolution service for domain controller location and a hierarchical design that Active Directory leverages to provide a naming convention that can reflect organizational structure.
Typically, a DNS domain namespace deployed to accommodate the Active Directory mirrors the Active Directory domain namespace. In cases where there is an existing DNS namespace prior to Active Directory deployment, the DNS namespace is typically partitioned for Active Directory, and a DNS subdomain and delegation for the Active Directory forest root is created. Additional DNS domain names are then added for each Active Directory child domain.
DNS data is used to support the location of Active Directory domain controllers also. During or after the creation of the DNS zones used to support Active Directory domains, the zones are populated with DNS resource records that enable network hosts and services to locate Active Directory domain controllers.

Have you switched off your built-in speakers? Go to control panel, click on sound, turn off your built-ins if they are on, and select the configuraion of your speakers--that might do it. If not, check device manager to see if any checks are present, which will identify where the problem is.
