I have a Briggs & Stratton 22 HP V-Twin OHV, Model 407777 on a John Deere LA145 mower. I bought it refurbished from Lowe's, and when I got it home it wouldn't start (no, I didn't ask them to start it for me at the store, at a $750 discount for a nearly new John Deere, I would have bought it whether it started or not). Anyway, when I turn the ignition key I get a strong whiring sound but there appears to be no ignition of gasoline. I removed the fuel line from the carb end and turned key to see gas being pumped out from the fuel pump. I next removed the plugs and squirted a little gas into the cylinder, replaced plugs, turned key, and ignition of the gas did occur but the engine still didn't start. What should I try next?

remove fuel hose from carb check that fuel is getting to that point then check if the hole the fuel line goes to is not plugged.
